SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City pool is now drained and shut down after vandals threw glass into it.Parents who bring their kids to the Allied Gardens pool for swim lessons were notified on Monday of the closure. "Honestly my reaction, I just kind of sat there dumbfounded, they called and said the classes were canceled, me being curious I asked why, they said vandalism. I said you have to be kidding. This is my neighborhood!" said Marie Veenstra, a mom of three.She says two of her children attend lessons at the pool on Glenroy Street four days a week. "It is super frustrating, not only as a mom who can't bring her kids to the pool, but thinking about the environment," said Veenstra.The City says broken shards of glass can be impossible to see or retrieve without draining the pool. Broken glass found in and around the pool results in having to drain the pool completely, conduct a thorough cleaning of the pool bottom to retrieve remaining pieces of glass, refill the pool with water and necessary chemicals to ensure the pool is safe and then reopen the facility.The City's safety protocol is consistent with the Model Aquatic Health Code. Draining and refilling the more than 320,000-gallon pool will cost the City roughly ,000 when factoring in personnel. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A cruise ship passenger and three crew members who arrived in San Diego on Monday have since tested positive for the novel coronavirus.County spokesperson José álvarez confirmed a passenger on the Celebrity Eclipse, which arrived in San Diego Monday, has tested positive for COVID-19. Tuesday afternoon, county health officials revealed that 3 crew members, who had been self-isolating, also tested positive. County health officials said they were notified before the ship came in that one passenger had a heart ailment and "possible" pneumonia. "We've been told all the way through that we were absolutely fine, no one sick at all, so it's a bit strange," said Filgate. "We were very relieved to leave the ship, but thinking about what that might have represented to the people you came in contat with, it's not such a great feeling now," said Filgate.A letter from Celebrity Cruises was sent to passengers reading, "because you were a passenger on this same voyage, it is possible you were exposed to someone who was sick with COVID-19."The letter goes on to direct passengers to complete a 14-day isolation. The passenger is not a San Diego County resident. The passenger is in the hospital in serious condition."There is no change in the plan of disembarking the remaining passengers today," álvarez said regarding the ship. "They will be screened prior to departure and only those who are asymptomatic and without fever are allowed to leave and proceed to transportation out of the county."A statement from the cruise line to 10News read:"We received clearance from port authorities and public health officials to disembark our guests and return them safely to their homes. No guests or crewmembers reported with symptoms throughout the sailing, and guests are going through exit health screenings when they leave the ship. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three newly activated teams of chaplains certified as handlers of specially trained service dogs will offer added emotional support services to the employees of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the agency announced Tuesday."We are excited to introduce our three canines," San Diego Fire Chief Colin Stowell said. "They are highly trained and available to our employees for emotional support in dealing with traumatic or emotionally challenging incidents. ... Using canines has proven successful in so many other areas, and we know these dogs will fit right in with our fire family."The SDFRD Crisis Response Canine program will be administered by chaplains Debi Arnold, Dan Guarrero and Betsy Salzman, making use of the skills of their dogs, Ty, Bodie and Genoa.Ty is a 6-year-old mini goldendoodle owned, trained and handled by Arnold, who bought him when he was 12 weeks old. They have two years' experience with a local trauma intervention program.Bodie, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, was trained and placed by Next Step Service Dogs, which prepares canines for active-duty military personnel, veterans and first responders who have post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.The total cost for Bodie and his training was about ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A distinctive pair of sneakers helped San Diego Police find a man suspected of threatening a Pacific Beach bar bouncer with a knife Tuesday.The man went to Open Bar on Mission Boulevard near Grand Avenue at 1 p.m. and said he was going to kill the employee, officers said.Police got a detailed description of the man, which included purple Air Jordan Nike shoes.An SDPD lieutenant who responded to the scene spotted the man - and his sneakers - and officers arrested him near Mission Boulevard and Pacific Beach Drive.Witnesses identified the suspect at the scene.During the search for the knife-wielding man, police said a drunk bar patron jumped on top of a patrol car and stomped on its roof. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Del Cerro woman had a rare - and timely - encounter outside a Halloween display on her morning walk Tuesday. Liz Harley and her friend Terry Finstad spotted an owl in the middle of the street, transfixed by a light show of bats on the side of a home. “It was just so cool,” Harley told 10News. Harley and Finstad have been walking together for 25 years, since their children were small. Now they’re both grandmothers and keep their tradition alive. During their walks, the two have seen all kinds of wildlife: coyotes, rabbits, skunks, raccoons. At first, Harley thought the owl was a cat, but then she noticed its head spinning. “We just watched it,” she said. “We wondered, what is it doing?” The owl spent several minutes absorbed by the flying bats, oblivious to Harley’s golden retriever. Harley and Finstad walked on, and when they passed through the area again, the owl was gone, leaving only feathers behind. “Kind of reminded me of Harry Potter,” Harley said. Harley, who usually goes to the gym on Tuesdays, is glad she chose to stay close to home. “I was rewarded for walking this morning.” 1130
