SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced today that all city-owned property along the San Diego River has been cleaned at least once. The city owns roughly one-third of riverfront property, and employees have removed nearly 99 tons of debris from 32 locations since last September, he said.Faulconer said the cleanup will continue, particularly in regard to outreach and coordination with owners of the remaining two-thirds of land along the river."The San Diego River is one of our most precious natural resources and we must continue to give it the care and attention it deserves," Faulconer said. "While we've cleared all of the city's property once, we still have a lot more work to do, so we're encouraging every property owner next to the river to join our cleanup efforts and help preserve the San Diego River for future generations."City employees have sent letters to 33 private property owners,including several businesses, that collectively own another third of riverfront property. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A man accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck off Sunset Cliffs and into the ocean with his twin toddler daughters inside is slated to be arraigned Monday.Robert Brians, 47, is charged with 13 counts, including attempted murder, kidnapping, child abuse, child abduction, criminal threats and burglary for allegedly driving into the water on the morning of June 13 with his 2-year- old daughters inside the truck. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Cleveland National Forest officials Saturday announced elevated fire restrictions until Jan. 1, 2021, and ordered the closure of Three Sisters & Cedar Creek Fall Trails after a heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service.The trails will be closed until Sunday, officials said."These restrictions are put into effect to provide for emergency resource protection and public safety during hazardous fire conditions," a forest official said.The new restrictions include:No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within a developed recreation sites; No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame;No target shooting, discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun;No building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or charcoal fire except within a developed recreation sites;No wood or charcoal fires are allowed except in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.The Cleveland National Forest encompasses 460,000 acres and is the southernmost U.S. National Forest in California. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County supervisors Wednesday unanimously approved the .1 million purchase of a nearly seven-acre parcel for a park in the community of Fallbrook.The 6.8-acre property, owned by Barr Ranch LLC, is located south of Fallbrook Road between Morro and Golden roads.Supervisor Jim Desmond, whose district includes Fallbrook, said the town doesn't have enough parks. He added the county will hold meetings with residents to see what kind of amenities residents would like included. He said some early requests include playgrounds and a skate park.Fallbrook currently has three local parks, providing 1 acre per 1,000 residents. That number doesn't meet the General Plan goal of 10 acres of local parkland for that same number of people.Money for the park purchase will come from a community development block grant, according to county documents.
