SAN FRANCISCO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Apple's chief executive officer Steve Jobs on Monday took a break from his medical leave to introduce the company's new cloud-based service iCloud.Jobs, in his trademark black turtleneck and jeans, got a standing ovation in San Francisco's Moscone Center when he appeared on stage. A beta version is available on Monday and the final version will be shipping with iOS 5 this fall, with paid plans for more storage to be announced at that time.For a 24.99-dollar paid music plan named iTunes Match, a user's iTunes library will be scanned and they will gain instant access to those tracks or albums from compatible devices, rather than uploading them. BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's maritime authority on Friday once again urged U.S. oil giant ConocoPhillips to finish cleaning up oil spills in north China's Bohai Bay as soon as possible.Aug. 31 is the deadline set by the government. "There are only five days to go before the arrival of the deadline," said a statement of the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).The SOA urged ConocoPhillips China to adopt all technical measures that could be used to clean up oil spills, and to do it "with an active manner."Liu Cigui, head of the SOA, said Thursday that his administration is collecting evidence and gauging the ecological impact of the spills in preparation for possible legal action against the company.ConocoPhillips China, a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, first reported the oil spills in June. The spills have spread to beaches in Hebei and Liaoning provinces and been blamed for losses in local tourism and aquatic farming industries.Although the company has worked to clean up the spills, pollutants have still been found in the bay, even after cleanup efforts were reported to be complete.ConocoPhillips China admitted that a total of 16 oil spill sources have been found in the bay as of Friday.

TAIYUAN, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical university will join hands with the Massey University of New Zealand to set up a community clinic specializing in chronic diseases in north China's Shanxi Province.The community clinic in Taiyuan, the provincial capital city, will provide medical services to more than 7,500 residents in the city's Hanxiguandong community, Ma Qianjin, vice president of the Shanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said on Friday.Residents will be able to seek advice from both Chinese and New Zealand experts on how to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes, said Ma.The clinic, which is expected to open this year, will also provide residents with free health check-ups and create health records for them.Bruce Ullrich, a Massey University board member, said on Friday that the clinic will integrate Western service with traditional Chinese medical techniques in its prevention and treatment of chronic diseases."The community clinic will mainly focus on people with obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases. The CPWF will cooperate with the Shanxi Cerebral Palsy Hospital, which specializes in curing the brain disease with therapies such as acupuncture and massage.Lan Ye, the deputy secretary general of the CPWF, said the fund aims to relieve the burden of affected families by providing financial assistance and training so parents are able to do the therapy at home. BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- San Francisco police said they had helped Apple search for a "lost item," following reports saying that a prototype of Apple's yet-to-be-released iPhone 5 had gone missing in July.Last week, technology news website CNET reported that an Apple employee lost at a tequila bar in San Francisco in July a prototype of iPhone 5, a new version of the company's mobile phone expected to be released in September or October.The San Francisco Police Department said in a press release that after the missing device was tracked using GPS technology to a San Francisco house, four police officers and two Apple employees visited the home."Apple employees called Mission police station directly, wanting assistance in tracking down a lost item," the statement said."The two Apple employees met with the resident and then went into the house to look for the lost item," it said. "The Apple employees did not find the lost item and left the house."Police did not say exactly what Apple had lost, but media reports found the file of San Francisco police's Friday press release about the hunt was named "iphone5.doc" -- an apparent hint of the new mobile device.A 22-year-old resident of the home, identified by SF Weekly as Sergio Calderon, told the newspaper that he has visited the bar where the phone was reportedly lost but he did not have the device.Calderon said the search of his house took place in July when police had traced the phone to the house using satellite positioning software on the device, but did not find anything in the house.Apple has declined to comment on the matter.Last year, an employee of the company lost a prototype iPhone 4 in a Redwood City bar before it was released.
