SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Soon after the pandemic forced Chollas Creek Elementary to close its campus back in March, parents have been able to pick up meals for their children they usually received while attending classes. To help provide this service to families, the San Diego Food Bank helps distribute boxes of food to those who need it.Food Bank CEO James Floros says the organization is now serving 47 school sites in eight different districts. Before the pandemic, the Food Bank helped around 350,000 people; that number has now doubled. With distance learning continuing into the fall, non-profits, the districts, and the county are all trying to make sure kids don't go hungry while they learn at home."We knew when COVID hit that this was going to be a marathon, not a sprint and even if we had a vaccine tomorrow and COVID went away... now we're in a recession and we could be doing this for the next couple of years," Floros said.If parents can't make it to their child's school regularly to pick up meals, they can go to the Food Bank's super pantries. There are dozens of locations all over the county, each open at least three days a week to provide groceries. In addition to the Food Bank, Feeding San Diego is also partnering with local school districts to distribute food. Both websites have sections to look up where to get food in your neighborhood and what resources are available. At many locations, all you have to do is show up, no questions asked."There's enough food for everybody they just need to reach out to the San Diego Food Bank, we'll help their families," said Floros.TO HELP OR FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SERVICES go to:https://feedingsandiego.org/get-help/https://sandiegofoodbank.org/gethelp/ 1731

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Saturday's Navy-Notre Dame matchup will be the biggest football game in San Diego since the Chargers left for LA.It could also be the last time San Diegans experience the kind of atmosphere it will bring inside what's now called SDCCU Stadium. "Navy-Notre Dame fills a stadium like no other way," said Barbette Lowndes, a U.S. Naval Academy Alumna who lives in Tierrasanta.MAP: Heading to the game? Check traffic conditions around Mission ValleyA crowd of more than 60,000 is expected for the 92nd meeting between Navy and undefeated Notre Dame, the third-ranked team in the country. "I think there's going to be even more heart there because you have people from Notre Dame who are all heart, from Indiana, who absolutely love to be able to support anything with Notre Dame-Navy," said Shannon Cyhan, a Notre Dame fan who lives in downtown San Diego. The Chargers left for Los Angeles after the 2016 season and the stadium formerly known as Qualcomm has been used sparingly since. It has the occasional concert and is about half to three-quarters full for SDSU Aztecs football games and the Holiday Bowl.RELATED: 1170

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Still many unanswered questions after alleged Poway synagogue shooter appeared at his readiness hearing in San Diego Superior Court. The Deputy District Attorney, David Grapilon, said he doesn't know if this will be a death penalty case and can't tell 10News how the 19-year-old legally obtained the gun used during the shooting. In the state case the shooter faces one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and a count of arson against an Escondido mosque."We have still not received recordings of the witnesses, we expect that there's going to be firearms analysis which will be crucial for this case, we also expect that there's going to be computer evidence involving my client's computer which is going to be very relevant in this case," Public Defender John O'Connell said. The evidence is already extensive, more than 700 pages handed over from the Deputy District Attorney to the defense. More evidence includes surveillance video of the shooting from the time he entered to the time he left the synagogue."The Sheriff's Department did a pretty exhaustive investigation along with the FBI, and allied agencies and there's a lot of statements of witnesses that we're taking," Grapilon said. He added those statements will be redacted when turned over to the defense. While the shooter's family was in federal court two days ago, no one was in the gallery Thursday.10News went to the family's neighborhood to see how they're faring. A neighbor said they are doing the best they can, the kids are going to school, trying to finish out the year. The shooter's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19, at 8:30 a.m. 1656
