Texas kicked off early voting Tuesday. People stood in long lines, voting in ways they've never done before. Some lined up before daylight on sidewalks outside major sports arenas to allow for more physical distancing.Early voting started Monday in Georgia and nearly 127,000 people cast their ballot, a first day record for the state.“There were hours-long wait times in some locations and glitches that added to the challenges,” said Mike Lydon, a principal at Street Plans. “Voting rights and having access to a safe and convenient polling location is going to really drive participation.”Street Plans is an urban planning and consulting firm that deals with transportation. They got a grant over the summer to put together a physical design plan for cities to best cope with social distancing, capacity restrictions and high voter turnout.“How you can make use of streets and public spaces to alleviate some of those issues and of course add some comfort elements like tents, seats, sanitation stations periodically throughout the queue,” said Lydon.The plans cover all types of polling locations, and how to properly do drive-up, curbside, outdoor and indoor voting.There are many potential problems for election officials when situations can change quickly.“COVID being this unknown variable, you could have a spike in the next three weeks at a certain location and that might totally change what was planned for in person indoor voting to go outdoors,” said Lydon.Street Plans is also offering free consulting assistance to cities. Stark similarities between a San Francisco brewery's beer can and the iconic soft drink cups used at In-N-Out prompted the burger chain to issue a cease and desist letter, though not without some light-hearted humor.Seven Stills Brewing recently crafted a new Neapolitan-style beer called "In-N-Stout," wrapped in a design resembling the much-loved burger chain's cup featuring palm trees and its signature yellow arrow.The resemblance is uncanny. So much so that it forced the burger chain to respond with a letter, politely asking the brewery to ditch the can.The brewery posted the pun-laden letter on Instagram, with the caption, "We count 9. Can you find them all?""Based on your use of our marks, we felt obligated to hop to action in order to prevent further issues from brewing," In-N-Out wrote. "We hope you appreciate, however, that we are attempting to clearly distill our rights by crafting an amicable approach with you, rather than barrel through this."We look forward to resolving this in good spirits," the letter ends.It's not the first time the brewery has taken inspiration from a popular brand. Seven Stills also brews a beer called "Rod and Reel," with a can featuring little fish resemble a "Swedish Fish" gummy candy wrapper.It's also not the first time in recent months In-N-Out has been forced to take action for its brand. State Superintendent Tony Evers defeated incumbent Gov. Scott Walker and will become the next governor of Wisconsin. Evers, a Democrat, won with 50 percent of the vote over the Republican governor Walker. The two were locked in a tight race, with the latest Marquette University Law poll showing the race at a dead heat. Walker has served as Wisconsin’s governor since 2011. Walker and Evers traded barbs over a number of topics, including healthcare. The two disagreed on whether Republicans would keep pre-existing conditions in the healthcare policy while dismantling other portions of the Affordable Care Act. A key element of Walker’s campaign was the issue of taxes, claiming if elected Evers would certainly raise them. In particular, he said Evers would raise the gas tax in the state of Wisconsin. Evers denied having such plans days before Election Day. The two also focused on education in Wisconsin. Texas State University moved to suspend all fraternity and sorority activities Tuesday, a day after a 20-year-old fraternity pledge died following an off-campus social event.San Marcos police said they were called at 11:35 a.m. Monday to respond to a person not breathing at an apartment complex. Matthew Ellis, a pledge for the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, was found unresponsive and declared dead less than an hour later. Police said he was discovered by friends just after 11 a.m.An autopsy is being conducted, but a preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor in his death, police said. 618

SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- Crews are battling a rapidly-spreading brush fire in northern Los Angeles County late Thursday night amid a statewide Red Flag Warnings.News station ABC7 is reporting that the 15-acre blaze, named Saddleridge Fire, is burning near homes and power lines.The fire erupted around 10 p.m. near the westbound 210 Freeway near Yarnell Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.Flames stopped traffic along the 210 when the fire jumped from the westbound side to the eastbound side.
