Community Health Centers that serve hundreds of thousands of San Diegans are now dealing with millions of dollars in federal cuts.So far, they've instituted a hiring freeze and put expansion plans on hold. But if Congress doesn't act soon, those cuts could force the centers to reduce hours starting in January. "We pray that it won't," said Giselle Brown, who goes to the La Maestra Community Health Center in City Heights for basic medical care. "People would be left out, they wouldn't be getting the proper help or care that they need."La Maestra is part of the Health Center Partners of Southern California network, consisting of 17 low-cost clinics in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside Counties.The Federal Government subsidizes centers like it around the country with about billion a year. But about 70 percent of that is expiring, and the first funds disappeared Sept. 30. Congress has not renewed it.However, the House is scheduled to vote Friday on a bipartisan bill that would extend the funds for two years. Vernita Todd, a V.P. for the health center system of Southern California, says she's concerned the bill may not get out of the Senate - and the January deadline of reducing services is only getting closer. Brown says she hopes the funding is restored, not just for her, but for her community.    1376

Coca-Cola will soon be giving Japanese consumers a new kind of buzz.In a departure from its traditional soda business, Coke plans to launch an alcoholic drink in Japan this year. It's trying to get in on the growing market for "chu-hi" -- canned, flavored drinks typically made with sparkling water and shochu, a Japanese spirit distilled from grains.The new drink is a "highly Japan-specific approach given the complexity and richness" of Coke's range of products in the country, Coke spokesperson Yohko Okabe told CNN on Wednesday.The company declined to give further details on the plans, but in a recent blog post, the president of Coca-Cola Japan said the drink would be "unique" in Coke's history."We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before," Jorge Gardu?o said in the post.The storied soft drinks company is set to enter a crowded market. Big Japanese beverage makers like Kirin and Suntory already produce popular "chu-hi" drinks.Brewing up an alcoholic beverage is just Coke's latest Japanese experiment.The country is one of the company's most competitive and fast changing markets. It says it launches about 100 new products there every year.Other big global brands have tried unusual things to cater to Japanese consumers' palates. Nestlé opened a factory last year in Japan to meet the growing demand for weirdly flavored KitKat bars.Coke has dabbled in alcohol in the past, buying wine businesses in the US in the 1970s. (KGTV) -- The 24-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy shot in an ambush-style attack last week has been released from the hospital, the department said.“Great news, one of those deputies was released from the hospital today. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Imagine this scenario, or for some of you, it's been a past reality. You're in the shower and the water suddenly shuts off. You're covered in soap. You go into distress. Then rage overcomes you.In a Facebook post, Cody Vickers documented a similar scenario that happened in Columbus while he was at a construction job. His photo shows a butt-naked man bathing in water spewing from a broken water main near North High Street in Clintonville, the Columbus Dispatch reported.He said, “It’s not every day you see a naked man come out of his house screaming and cussing ... then comes off the porch and finishes taking his shower where the excavator hit the line," in a Facebook post that has since gone viral, getting 137,000 shares and more than 14,000 likes."I was in the f****** shower. I got soap all over me," said Vickers, repeating what the man said when he was met with a trench and a fountain of water. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kanye West, who is currently making an independent bid for the presidency, won't appear on the ballot in Ohio due to some irregularities involving his petition to run for office.According to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball, "failed to meet the requirements necessary to appear on the presidential ballot in Ohio for the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election."Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions, LaRose said.Click here to view West's nominating petition and declaration of candidacy forms.In order to appear on the ballot, West would have had to file a "valid and sufficient joint nominating petition and statement of candidacy that complies with the law and at least 5,000 valid signatures from Ohio voters and a slate of 18 presidential electors," according to LaRose."A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition," LaRose said. "There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification."West likely won't appear on the ballots in enough states to even qualify for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.
