WASHINGTON (AP) — Hackers got into computers at the U.S. Treasury Department and possibly other federal agencies, touching off a government response involving the National Security Council. Security council spokesperson John Ullyot says on Sunday that the government is aware of reports about the hacks and is taking steps to identify and remedy any possible issues. Reuters reported Sunday that a group backed by a foreign government stole information from Treasury and a Commerce Department agency responsible for internet and telecommunications policy. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Californians are getting ready for a new set of businesses to reopen after June 12, 2020. Last Friday, the state released specific COVID-19 guidelines for several industries, including gyms, bars, and hotels. Vista Fitness owner Brian Belasco is setting up cones in his parking lot to create social distancing spots for his patrons. He's doing this well in advance of the state's gym reopenings on June 12."Being able to reopen means the world to us," Belasco said. Last Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom released specific guidelines for the next group of industries allowed to reopen with modifications, no sooner than June 12, 2020. They include gyms, schools, film production, professional sports, bars and wineries, hotels, cardrooms, family entertainment, museums, and zoos. Since mid-March, Belasco said his trainers have been successfully teaching online workout classes. "We just finished a virtual challenge," Belasco said. "We had members losing up to 30 pounds in 28 days."But he said he is ready to see his members in person. "It's the camaraderie, especially times like right now, bringing people together that is our specialty," Belasco said. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Students at Rancho Minerva Middle School in Vista are sending love to a city still grieving after a mass shooting. Jessica Ward, a 6th and 8th-grade teacher at Minerva, was inspired to act after seeing a Facebook post:"Hello. We are teachers in El Paso. We would like to know if anyone is interested in sending us postcards to help our students know there is plenty of good in our world. As teachers, we may only be able to say so much. We think concrete messages of support would help us calm some fears. Any thoughts?"Ward and her more than 160 students got to work, creating letters filled with love, support, funny jokes, and positivity. "I just hope this small little gesture will bring happiness and positivity to their lives," said Ward. Ward also showed the students news clips of the tragedy, answering questions about what happened less than a month ago. "It's just something I like to be open about, so they understand that it's important to talk about. It's not something that should be silenced, it's something that everyone should be aware of, and part of the fight is talking about it," said Ward. Virginia Beach Police are investigating a shooting that seriously injured two people early Sunday morning.Officers were alerted to multiple shots fired in the area around 12:45 a.m. A woman was located and suffering from a life-threatening wound. Medics treated the woman and took her to the hospital.A few minutes later at 12:48 a.m., officers received word that a victim with life-threatening injuries was located in several blocks away. EMS treated and took the victim to the hospital for further treatment.A possible suspect has been detained and the investigation is ongoing.Prior to this shooting, police responded to another shooting at the 1900 block of the Boardwalk. A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.There is an increased police presence throughout the oceanfront area due to College Beach Weekend. Problems with violence in past years have caused some to be critical of the event.
