SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One man was injured in a stabbing in Spring Valley Sunday evening, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.Deputies said that a man between the ages of 40 and 50 was transported to the hospital after another man stabbed him, and he is expected to survive.The call to the residence near Dale Avenue and S. Bonita St. came in shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.Deputies said that a weapon was found, and they are currently investigating.This is a developing story. 10News will update as information becomes available.  559

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One San Diego woman is changing the world, one butterfly at a time. Jan Landau’s family knows the horrors of the Holocaust. She made a promise to them, never to forget. She co-founded the Butterfly Project. It brings the history of the Holocaust to the classroom and introduces an art project, painting ceramic butterflies. Each beautifully painted butterfly represents the life of a child killed in the Holocaust. The Butterfly Project is being taught in schools throughout San Diego County. Volunteers have also brought the lesson to schools around the world. Now ceramic butterflies are displayed on walls on every continent of the world. "We have hope that even in difficult times….things will get better," Landau said.This lesson is told, not by teachers but the children of Holocaust survivors, bringing the past to life in a way that helps students make the world a better place. It starts with understanding history. Landau brings the Jewish star to show students. The star was required to be worn on the outside of clothing. “To identify them as Jews and be treated poorly," Landau said.Jews were stripped of their names and given only a number and a uniform. The living were forced to take pieces of clothing from those who passed. If they were fortunate to find a way to sew pieces on their uniform, it would keep them warmer in the winters of Poland. A volunteer speaker tells how her father used a pocket. “My dad took this pocket in hopes he’d find food to put inside this pocket." Another volunteer speaker show slides of Jewish prisoners sleeping, one on top of each other, on wooden planks, so tightly they couldn’t turn over. They had to rest their heads on their metal food bowl. “There was no mattress, no blanket, no pillow." The mission of the Butterfly Project is to honor and remember the 1.5 million children killed in the Holocaust by creating a butterfly for each life lost. “It represents their voice. They have a voice…we remember these children that were killed," said Landau.Landau and her team share the trait that gave their families a happy life: gratitude. “The most important lesson of the Holocaust is to have perseverance; we all go through stuff, but we have to persevere.” They teach the dangers of hate and bigotry and the importance of being what they call an ‘upstander.’ “To stand up for not only our rights but the rights of others," Landau said.For her mission to spread love and remembrance around the world, we rewarded Jan Landau with the 10News Leadership Award. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Prosecutors say streetlight camera video revealed the killer of an East Village business owner. A bevy of surveillance and streetlight video was released during the preliminary hearing for Kevin Cartwright and Lorena Espinoza, accused of killing of Tony Radda, 49.October 2018. Just before 3 p.m., store surveillance video shows a woman wearing a purple wig and sunglasses enter the store.Video shows Radda and the woman going towards the back, possibly to show her some merchandise. Right away, a man in a mask is seen trailing behind them, lurking. When Radda and the woman return, the man in the mask attacks Radda, dragging him out of camera range. Prosecutors believe that is when Radda was shot several times and killed.Soon after, the masked man is caught prying open a cash register. Prosecutors say while the woman took off in an SUV; the man walked away.According to prosecutors, that walk was captured by a string of streetlight cameras. In one of the videos - about 12 blocks away from the store - the man in the mask sheds it, revealing a face, police eventually identified as Cartwright. On Friday, the judge is expected to decide whether the two will go to trial. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying several suspects they say stole 0,000 worth of jewelry from a Mount Soledad home.According to officers, the burglary happened in the Mount Soledad area in June 16, though an exact address wasn’t given.Police say the suspects used a tool to pry open the door before stealing numerous pieces of jewelry valued at more than 0,000.Most of the jewelry is large and very distinctive, police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Pacific Beach residents were seen running for their lives as a pickup truck slammed into several parked vehicles early Thursday.Witness video captured the incident, showing a pickup truck revving its engine, screeching its tires, and slamming into vehicles. Witnesses said at least nine vehicles were damaged. Another video showed neighbors holding the driver down on the ground until police arrived, one neighbor holding the man down in a headlock. Someone nearby could be heard yelling, "don't hurt him," at the group.Police arrive to detain the driver, but it's not clear what led to the dangerous incident.One neighbor who helped hold down the driver said his first reaction was to prevent anyone for getting hurt."My first reaction he needed to get out of the car and restrain him so he didn't hit anyone else," said James Scherr.The driver was taken to a nearby hospital by police for minor injuries.
