NEW YORK (AP) — In a sign of how the pandemic is remaking Hollywood traditions, AMC Theatres and Universal Studios on Tuesday announced an agreement for a shortened theatrical window, with the studio’s films playing for a minimum of just 17 days in cinemas compared to the typical 90 days.Studios have increasingly sought to shorten that window and deliver new movies more quickly into the home.After 17 days, Universal Pictures and Focus Features will have the option to make their films available across premium video on demand platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime and AMC Theatres On Demand.“The theatrical experience continues to be the cornerstone of our business. The partnership we’ve forged with AMC is driven by our collective desire to ensure a thriving future for the film distribution ecosystem and to meet consumer demand with flexibility and optionality,” said Donna Langley, Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group in a press release.This deal applies to U.S. theaters, international distribution between the two companies is still being negotiated.AMC and other theater chains have struggled during the pandemic as businesses closed earlier this year and indoor spaces face state-by-state guidance on social distancing and reopening policies.AMC says this multi-year deal with Universal is a commitment and belief that customers will come back.“We would note that just as restaurants have thrived even though every home has a kitchen, AMC is highly confident that moviegoers will come to our theatres in huge numbers in a post-pandemic world. There are other options without impacting your credit score.Getting by by making minimum payments on her credit cards, Jana Krause is feeling financially strapped."I'm finding myself in a position that I was able to make my credit card payments on time. Now I'm concerned that that’s not going to be a happening thing coming up in the next months," Krause said.With the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation set to expire next month, Krause reached out to her credit card companies hoping she can lower her minimum payments without having to go into a hardship program that would freeze her account and potentially impact her credit score."I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place," Krause said. "I've never experienced something like this in my life. I've never been out of a job."At 74, Krause is considered high risk for COVID-19, and going back to teaching wellness classes is not an option for her.Sara Rathner, a credit card expert at the finance company Nerd Wallet, said Krause is not alone."You can look into other options to free up cash in your budget to fulfill other obligations," Rathner said. "Turn to your utility companies, your landlord, your mortgage company, see what sorts of help they can provide. Maybe by freeing up cash in that way you’ll still be able to meet the minimum payments on your credit card."And if that’s not possible, research personal loans or debt consolidation programs. But beware of scams."You can start with non-profit credit counseling that can help you come up with a debt repayment plan and debt consolidation, or even just get help reworking your budget to see if you can free up money to pay your bills," Rathner said.Krause said she’s already cost-conscious doing groceries."I'm not going to one of my favorite stores and getting my favorite treats, nothing. I mean, all that’s been cut out," Krause said.Hardship payments programs may not be for everyone, but Rathner said weigh your priorities before you knock it."In an emergency, your credit score doesn’t need to be your first priority," Rathner said. "You can get yourself into a more stable situation and then focus on rebuilding your credit from there. The move propels Amazon into a new business and could shake up the pharmacy industry. The move puts the online retail giant in direct competition with big chains like CVS and Walgreens, who rely on their pharmacies to bring them a steady flow of shoppers who stop by frequently to pick up their medications. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police say a 10-year-old child has been killed and two teenagers wounded by gunfire. Police Chief Shaun Ferguson says police responding to shots being fired Monday afternoon found the three victims. A girl described as about 15 or 16 and a boy, age 13 were wounded. The 10-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the head. What led to the shooting is unknown. During a news conference, Ferguson said he is "pleading" for anyone in the community with information on the shootings to come forward. Ferguson said police so far have learned the victims were standing along a street in New Orleans' 7th Ward when they were approached by people who began shooting at them.According to the Kansas City Star, Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu will pay for the victim's funeral.Per Nola.com, the child will be buried on July 31, which would have been his birthday. 899
