(KGTV) — Chula Vista's annual Starlight Parade and Children's Faire set for this holiday season is being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.While the event is months away, organizers have pulled the plug on this December's event. Instead, the parade will be postponed until Dec. 4, 2021."We are sorry to announce that the Chula Vista Starlight Parade will be postponed until December 2021. Due to the COVID-19 health crisis and after careful consideration of current local and state mandates, we have made this difficult decision," organizers wrote on Facebook. "The safety of our residents, participants, vendors, and employees is most important at this time. (KGTV) - 10News spoke Friday with the South San Diego County boy whose generous act on Halloween became a viral video.Kim Manalo reached out after her security cameras caught the boy adding some of his candy to an empty bowl on her front porch in Chula Vista.The surveillance video of the boy in his Grim Reaper costume went viral.  On Friday, 10News identified him as 15-year-old Lawrence Malot, a freshman at Olympian High School who moved from the Philippines to Chula Vista four years ago.RELATED: Kids pay it forward on HalloweenMalot explained his good deed. “It was still early and when I looked and I kind of felt bad for the other trick-or-treaters,” Malot told 10News reporter Joe Little.Malot’s trick or treat bag may soon be replenished.  People have called 10News from all over the country, saying they want to give him candy."I feel kind of proud of myself.  I just feel proud.  I'm so happy," Malot said. 972

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A new exhibit at the Chula Vista Library's Heritage Museum is telling the stories of the South Bay's Holocaust Survivors."History repeats itself, and if you don't recall it, then it's going to happen again," says Curator Sandra Scheller.The exhibit, "RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust," focuses on Scheller's mother, Ruth. She survived three concentration camps before coming to Chula Vista. It also features 11 other survivors who called the area home over the last 70+ years.Scheller says only five survivors are left in the South Bay, and she wants to make sure no one forgets what they went through, or how they made Chula Vista a better place throughout their lives."This was a labor of love," Scheller says. "I've loved every second of it."The exhibit features photos of the survivors, artifacts from Jewish life before, during and after the Holocaust, and personal touches from Scheller's family. It includes replicas of the yellow stars her grandparents wore during World War II, clothing and even a tooth from her grandmother."She had to break this tooth out because it had some gold in it," Scheller explains. "The Nazis would have killed her for this gold."The exhibit opens Sunday, January 12 and will remain on display throughout the year. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Chula Vista Police have made an arrest in connection with the body of a woman found in a field in August.Police said 28-year-old Vanesa Gastellu was arrested for the murder of Christina Garcia on Aug. 5. Garcia's body was discovered in a field near the 3100 block of Main Street by a passerby. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) – Chula Vista police are investigating an overnight carjacking and kidnapping involving perpetrators disguised as law enforcement.The incident was reported just before midnight Tuesday in the Rancho Del Rey III neighborhood in East Chula Vista.Police said a group of men, armed with guns and wearing bullet proof vests, were driving in two white Ford Expedition SUV’s, which appeared to look like squad vehicles. Two people wearing vests with the word 'police' on the front ordered him to get out of his Renault Koleos SUV. Police said the victim believed the suspects had a gun. He got into one of their SUVs and was driven to Paseo Del Rey Park, located between Telegraph Canyon Road and East J Street. The suspects released the victim unharmed at the park, according to police.The victim walked 40 minutes to a residence on J Street to call 9-1-1, police said. He was not hurt in the incident, police said.The suspect vehicles and the stolen SUV are still outstanding, according to police.
