CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will not compromise on issues of principle at the ongoing UN climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, the country's chief negotiator said on Saturday.Su Wei, the chief Chinese negotiator and head of the climate change department of China's National Development and Reform Commission, made the remarks in response to some parties' call for "compromise to make achievements.""All the parties want to reach substantial achievements at the Cancun conference, which can lay a solid foundation for the completion of 'Bali Roadmap' negotiations," Su told Xinhua in an exclusive interview."I think we can cooperate with other parties and even make compromises on some non-principle issues, but we will not compromise on the issues of principle, such as the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, which is the basis for a package of agreements to be made in Cancun," Su said.The negotiator stressed that the developing countries have reached consensus on the principle issues. "We are keeping solidarity and trying to play a constructive role," he added.Su said some country's opposition to the Kyoto Protocol is no good news to the developing countries, and has exerted negative influence on the conference.Negotiators at the Cancun conference are trying to establish a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol, which obliges rich nations except the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5.2 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012."At the end of the first week of the Cancun conference, there are some progresses in adaptation, finance, technology and mitigation for the developing countries, but it is hard to say if the progresses are final ones," Su observed.As for the rumors about a secret Mexican text, Su said that the president of COP16 has told the delegations from every country including China that Mexico will not put forward a secret text."As I know, Mexico, the host country of COP16, is always pursuing the principles of 'open, transparent and widening participation' for the climate negotiations this year. I believe Mexico will continue to keep the principles to try to get the results of balance at the Cancun Conference," he said.Su noted that the ministers will arrive in Cancun in the second week of the conference. He hopes the ministers can play an active role in promoting the progress of the conference.A 70-strong-member delegation of the Chinese government, headed by Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, is cooperating with other parties to seek a solution to global warming in Cancun.The Cancun talks, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 10, are aimed at finding solutions to global climate change. BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shanghai municipal government is making moves to enhance its mergers and acquisitions (M&As) market, a move in tune with the cosmopolitan city's ambition to make itself a global financial hub by 2020.The city will initially actively propel the construction of its financial market and M&A-related auxiliary services, especially the agents who facilitate deals, to aid these activities, said Shanghai Vice-Mayor Tu Guangshao on Thursday.He said the local government is also considering setting up a China Mergers and Acquisitions Association in Shanghai.Meanwhile, plans to open an M&A museum are also in the pipeline to help create an M&A culture in the city."We've made concrete efforts to encourage benign conditions to allow these plans to materialize," Tu said.The M&A market, in turn, will help catalyze improvements in the city's financial market functions, structures, and systems, as well as boosting badly needed adjustments to its economic structure. BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Saturday discussed the latest situation on the Korean Peninsula in phone calls with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and Japanese foreign minister Seiji Maehara.The discussions follow an artillery exchange between South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in waters off the west coast of the divided peninsula on Tuesday.During the conversations, Yang said safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula served the common interests of concerned parties.Those parties should call on the DPRK and South Korea to exercise calmness and restraint and hold dialogue and make contacts, and not to take actions that would escalate the conflict, he said.He said all parties should work together to help cool the situation as soon as possible and effectively ensure no repeat of such conflict.Meanwhile, the Chinese minister expressed the hope that concerned parties would take a reasonable and pragmatic approach to actively create favorable conditions for resuming the six-party talks.The parties should also commit themselves to establish related mechanisms at an early date to eliminate various factors threatening peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the whole region.Lavrov said Russia agreed with China on the latest situation and was ready to keep close contact with China to help defuse the tensions on the peninsula and create conditions for a restart of the six-party talks.Maehara said that Japan is willing to work together with China to jointly safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and push forward the denuclearization process of the Peninsula.During Tuesday's incident, shells landed on South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island near the contentious sea border called Northern Limit Line (NLL). BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese credit rating firm Dagong Global Credit Rating assessed the sovereign credit rating of Ireland at BBB in its third sovereign or regional credit rating report released Monday.Dagong's credit rating of Ireland is lower than that given by Moody's, Standard and Poor's and Fitch."Dagong made its assessment based on factors such as Ireland's increasing debt level, the administrative capability of its government, economic and financial strength," Dagong Global said.Dagong Global's announcement follows the proposed 85-billion-euro bailout of debt-hit Ireland by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.Dagong's report also rated four other nations - Finland, Uruguay, Kenya and Sudan.In terms of domestic currency-denominated debt, Finland received the firm's top AAA rating, but with a negative outlook.Uruguay was rated BB-plus while Kenya received a B rating.Sudan was rated C, the nation's first sovereign credit rating.Dagong Global uses a three-level assessment system, with each level containing three sub-levels.
