The Department of Justice announced Wednesday the indictment of two fighters affiliated to the Islamic State group who are alleged to have killed American journalists and aid workers.El Shafee Elsheikh and Alexanda Kotey were previously in U.S. military custody in Iraq and have been transported to Virginia to face trial.Elsheikh and Kotey, both of the United Kingdom, are two of the four ISIS fighters nicknamed "The Beatles" by intelligence officers because of their British accents. They've been linked to the killings of aid workers Peter Kassig and Kayla Mueller and journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley.“These charges are the product of many years of hard work in pursuit of justice for our citizens slain by ISIS. Although we cannot bring them back, we can and will seek justice on behalf of their memories,” Attorney General William Barr said in a statement. “My message to other terrorists around the world is this — if you harm Americans, you will face American arms on the battlefield, and if you survive that ordeal, you will face American law in our courtrooms with the prospect of many years in an American prison. Either way, you will never live in peace — you will be pursued to the ends of the earth until justice is done.”Barr was not present at Wednesday's press conference as he is currently self-isolating amid a COVID-19 outbreak in the Trump administration. 1395

The current spike in COVID-19 cases is stressing the testing system across the country. As the virus spreads at unprecedented rates, more Americans are seeking COVID-19 tests. But in recent days, companies that make the tests and the supplies needed for them are struggling to keep up with demand."Those companies were operating on an allocation basis, and that just means that basically everything they make is going out the door," said Kelly Wroblewski, the Director of Infectious Disease Programs at the Association of Public Health Laboratories. "There is no reserve, so there's an increased demand in a lab for testing. There's no more reagent to be had, so to meet that demand, that lab has to use a different manufacturer's test."Wroblewski adds that along with issues in getting supplies, officials are also short on human resources — there is only so much lab capacity and only so many trained people to conduct the tests. The American Clinical Laboratory Association says the surge in demand for testing means some labs could reach or exceed their current testing capacities soon — meaning it could take longer for patients to get PCR test results back.Wroblewski says that it can take currently take anywhere from 24 hours to a week to get PCR test results back. With antigen tests, patients can get results back in less than 30 minutes. There is currently enough of a supply for antigen tests, but not all facilities offer them. Both lab groups stress that COVID-19 testing is important, but patients should be strategic."There's been a lot of emphasis put on testing, but testing is only one piece of the puzzle," Wroblewski said. "It gives you some information, and if you're not going to do anything with that information — whether it be targeted closures. whether it be staying home and isolating — we're not going to stop the spread of disease."As far as getting more tests, it's going to take a while. Wroblewski says it could take up to six months or more to increase production capacity significantly. Labs don't expect to see a ramp-up in supplies until early 2021. 2090

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigates an incident involving Trump supporters swarming a Joe Biden campaign bus as it traveled from San Antonio to Austin Saturday.According to CNN, staffers on the bus called 911 after nearly 100 vehicles blockaded the tour bus on the interstate and tried to run it off the road.On Sunday, Trump said his supporters were "protecting" the bus, according to Forbes.A Biden campaign staffer told CNN Saturday's incident involved nearly 100 vehicles.Neither Former Vice President Joe Biden nor California Sen. Kamala Harris were on the bus, CNN reported. 601

The clock is ticking for restaurants across the country that are starving for cash and desperate for another round of aid from the federal government, as an estimated 16,000 restaurants have already closed since the COVID-19 outbreak began. For Kari Kuelzer, who owns Grendel's restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the burden of keeping her small business open in particularly heavy. This dive bar located just blocks away from Harvard University was first opened by her parents in 1971 and has been a fixture for both students, locals and tourists who visit the area. But without another round of federal aid, Kuelzer is uncertain what the future of Grendel's looks like."The dominoes are going to fall. Without some kind of support, some kind of stimulus, all facets of the economy are going to struggle and it’s needless," she said while standing in the kitchen of Grendel's.Like restaurant owners around the country, this 50-year-old business owner has tried to get creative, from outdoor screened-in pods for dining to a new line of to-go cocktails and trail mix. Kuelzer knows, though, mixed drinks aren’t going to keep her afloat forever."We need more forgivable loans," she said.Politicians in Washington are at a stalemate over another round of funding, something especially troubling to Kuelzer, who saw an immediate impact from those first round of stimulus checks."The moment people started getting their unemployment stimulus checks, we saw an uptick in business,” she recalled. “The minute it went away, we saw it fall down.”Sean Kennedy with the National Restaurant Association says Congress needs to step in to help the nation's restaurants that employ nearly 15.6 million people across the country."The restaurant industry is in a unique challenge. We were the first to shut down and we’ll be the last to recover,” Kennedy said. “What’s clear is we need a more long-term, far-reaching approach from the federal government or restaurants are going to survive.”Historically, restaurants have the lowest amount of cash on hand compared to any industry in the country. Most restaurants only have enough cash to get by for 16 days, and nationwide, more than 100,000 restaurants have had to shut down for a second time."We’ve lost more jobs and more revenue than any of industry. That needs to be an alarm bell," Kennedy said.As for restaurant owners like Kuelzer, she'll keep trying to reinvent a recipe for survival, knowing her family's legacy is on the line."We really will need to have some assurances; we’ll get some government assistance," she said. 2576

The Columbus Zoo in Ohio said visitors helped find a red panda that zookeepers discovered was missing on Wednesday.According to the zoo, visitors notified the zoo that they had spotted Kora, the red panda, around 4:43 p.m. on Thursday near the panda's habitat. The zoo said that after trying to coax the red panda down from a tree, the zoo used a tranquilizer."Amid clapping and happy tears from Zoo team members, the sleeping Kora was placed in her crate and taken to the Zoo’s Animal Health Center for evaluation where she was provided care and given a clean bill of health," the zoo said. "Kora has since been returned to her habitat in Asia Quest, where she will have the opportunity to reunite with her cubs when she wakes. Her care team will continue their overnight watch to ensure they continue to do well, and red panda father, General Tso, will have the opportunity to join them in the morning."The zoo said that the panda didn't pose a threat to the public, but was “eager” to find her.The zoo said that it had moved all of its Asia Quest animals to indoor habitats as officials continue to scour the zoo. The panda had not been seen since Tuesday evening. The red panda is roughly the size of a racoon, and is not a threatening animal. She has two nursing cubs, and the zoo said it had to feed her cubs by using a specialized formula while she was missing. The zoo is one of the busiest in the United States, attracting nearly 2.5 million visitors a year. 1474
