LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Dodger World Series celebrations devolved into looting and vandalism, leading to 18 arrests and left three Los Angeles police officers with minor injuries, authorities said Wednesday.The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested 10 suspects, including eight in the East Los Angeles area for failing to obey a dispersal order. The company argued that some of its takeaway products including including teas, coffees, and heated sandwiches, were not liable for value-added tax. A panel of judges rejected the appeal Tuesday, ruling that the bread sold by Subway contains too much sugar to be categorized as a “staple food,” which is not taxed. They said that the bread in Subway's heated sandwiches has a sugar content of 10% of the weight of the flour included in the dough, exceeding the 2% specified in the law.The law makes a distinction between “bread as a staple food” and other baked goods “which are, or approach, confectionery or fancy baked goods,” the judgement said.Bookfinders was appealing a 2006 decision by authorities who refused to refund value-added tax payments. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol Friday promised focused enforcement efforts during the New Year's holiday weekend.The CHP's Maximum Enforcement Period will start at 6:01 p.m. Friday and go through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, when all available officers will be on duty, officials said.``Impairment of any kind while driving is illegal. Alcohol, cannabis or legal or illegal drugs can all affect your driving,'' CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley said. ``Impaired driving is a serious crime that can lead to an arrest, serious injury or death.''RELATED: California's repeat DUI offenders to use ignition interlocks in 2019The CHP promised to focus on impaired drivers but also watch for distracted driving, speeding and seat belt violations.
