SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police arrested a domestic violence suspect Friday morning after a standoff in La Mesa that temporarily blocked access to parts of Grossmont Center. The La Mesa and San Diego police departments responded to the situation at Grossmont Center Drive and Center Drive just before 8 a.m. Both streets were closed as officers worked to detain the suspect, La Mesa Police reported in a tweet.The situation started Thursday night when police received a call from the victim, saying she was choked by her ex-boyfriend at a residence on the 6800 block of Hyde Park Drive, San Diego police said.Police responded about 7:20 p.m. but the suspect already had fled in the girlfriend's car. Officers took a crime report and the victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa as a precautionary measure.The suspect returned to the residence this morning and the victim called the police again, according to SDPD. The suspect then drove to Grossmont Center, where police found him around 7:30 a.m. The suspect was arrested at 8:19 a.m. and taken into custody.The streets in the area were reopened around 8:30 a.m., SDPD said. 1145

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The founder and former CEO of a San Diego startup pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal wire fraud charge for stealing more than .5 million from his own company.Jeffrey Fildey, 56, of Las Vegas, created GoFormz Inc. -- which provides online mobile forms and reporting products -- and began illegally taking money from the company sometime around late 2015 and continued to do so through August 2017, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.U.S. Attorney Robert S. Brewer said, Fildey "abused a position of trust to brazenly steal company assets, treating GoFormz Inc. as his own private slush fund."Prosecutors say Fildey obtained loans -- supposedly for the company -- then kept the funds for himself, paid for personal expenditures on company credit cards, received cash advances for himself on company credit cards and took money directly from the company's bank account.A U.S. Attorney's Office statement announcing the plea cited examples that included a 6,250 loan he obtained for the company, which he immediately wired from the firm's bank account to his personal bank account. The U.S. Attorney's Office said GoFormz made payments on the loan while he spent the money on personal expenses.The U.S. Attorney's Office said Fildey took three unauthorized loans on behalf of the company and transferred the funds to his bank account each time, withdrew more than 0,000 in cash from the company's bank account for his personal use and made more than ,600 in unauthorized purchases on the corporate credit card.The company lost ,544,147 as a result, according to the plea agreement.Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 9. 1658

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County reported 409 new cases of COVID-19 and four additional deaths Saturday, raising the county's totals to 48,200 cases and 798 fatalities as the city of San Diego reopened its 289 playgrounds.Three men and one woman died -- between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 -- and their ages ranged from the early 60s to mid-80s, officials said Saturday. All but one had underlying medical conditions.Of the 9,143 tests reported Friday, 4% returned positive, bringing the 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases to 3.1%. The state-set target is less than 8%. The seven-day daily average of tests was 9,191.Of the total number of cases in the county, 3,560 -- or 7.4% -- have required hospitalization and 830 -- or 1.7% of all cases -- had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.Two new community outbreaks were confirmed on Friday, both in a government setting.
