URUMQI, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Friday arrived in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, leading a central government delegation to attend festivities marking the 60th anniversary of the region's founding.
Viewing the new project "a strategic cooperation project between the two countries," both sides expressed the hope that the cooperation could form a network and play a big role in the social and economic development in the vast western part of China.
For instance, two lighthouses recently built on reefs in the region have helped guide passing vessels from around the world and significantly improved navigation safety.
