Beijing began offering the first batch of 3 million coupons on Saturday to boost the city's consumption of food delivery services, the municipal commerce bureau said. Jointly funded by the municipal government and two major food delivery platforms, Ele.me and Meituan, coupons worth 300 million yuan (.3 million) will be issued until mid-December, making delivered food cheaper. More than 70,000 restaurants have participated in the distribution of the first batch of coupons, the bureau said. People can redeem the coupons within seven days of receiving them.

Beijing's food safety watchdog has begun a two-week sanitation inspection of the city's restaurants, following news reports that two Beijing branches of a popular hotpot chain were unhygienic.
