SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A shooting near Willie Henderson Sports Complex left a man wounded Friday.The 40-year-old victim was sitting in his vehicle in the 900 block of South 45th Street in Mountain View shortly before noon when a "large" man approached and shot him several times in the upper body, then ran off, according to San Diego police.Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of non-life- threatening wounds, Officer Tony Martinez said.It was unclear if the two men knew each other, and the motive for the shooting was unknown. 547

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - In a 6-3 vote, the San Diego City Council today rejected a proposed .5 million sale of the property holding the city's only roller skating rink, Skateworld.The proposal called for the city to sell the parcel of land to big-box store developer Pacifica Companies, much to the chagrin of Skateworld supporters who called on the council to either collect more community feedback before approving the sale or reject it outright in favor of renovating the rink.Skateworld advocates collected thousands of signatures in an effort to save the skating rink, including a change.org petition that garnered more than 19,000 supporters. "I really appreciate that residents of every council district came to speak today about the community that Skateworld fosters,'' said City Councilwoman Barbara Bry. "I think there's so few family friendlyopportunities in that community that it's really essential.''The skating rink was developed under a state redevelopment agency more than 40 years ago. When Gov. Jerry Brown dissolved the redevelopment agencies in 2011, he ordered that their assets be liquidated to the highest bidder.The city put the property up for bid last year and named Pacifica the recommended buyer after three rounds of receiving offers for the site. Supporters of the sale, including City Councilman Scott Sherman, who represents the district Skateworld is in, argued the city's hands were tied and it should honor Pacifica's bid. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Following a two-week warning period, the City of San Diego will resume parking regulation enforcement across the city Thursday after months of limited enforcement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.According to the city, restarting parking enforcement will allow for increased turnover at parking meters and businesses, ensuring accessibility for patrons visiting local stores and restaurants.The city temporarily suspended parking enforcement on March 16 following the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, limiting enforcement to holiday or Sunday regulations only. Multiple attempts in the following months to reinforce parking regulations have been thwarted by ongoing shutdown orders.Citations continued to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white, and blue painted curbs.On Oct. 1, limited enforcement with written warnings began. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - At least three vehicles were burned Wednesday morning when a carport caught fire in the parking lot of a Mountain View apartment complex, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the apartments nearby, authorities said.The blaze was reported at 5:10 a.m. in the parking lot of an apartment building on Benfield Court, off South 45th Street between Ocean View Boulevard and Imperial Avenue, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.Firefighters responded and found a carport engulfed in flames along with at least three vehicles in the parking lot, a SDFRD dispatch supervisor said. Crews knocked down the flames within 20 minutes and no adjacent structures were damaged.No injuries were reported.The cause of the fire was under investigation. 792

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Wednesday publicly identified a Chula Vista city employee found slain in his home near Mount Helix.Chula Vista police personnel conducting a welfare check at the request of a co-worker found the body of 38-year-old Kevin Powell in his residence in the 4400 block of Carmen Drive in Casa De Oro shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.Because the neighborhood is in an unincorporated area, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called in to take charge of the case, said sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver.Powell's death has been ruled a homicide, said Seiver, who declined to specify how the victim is believed to have died."The preliminary cause-of-death (finding) is being withheld for investigative reasons," Seiver said.Powell's work supervisor asked police to check on him after he missed several meetings, according to the sheriff's department. 878
