BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu, who headed Monday to the typhoon-hit regions in Fujian and Zhejiang, warned Tuesday that the country faces grim tasks of fighting secondary disasters as a result of Typhoon Morakot. Big floods are still likely to happen as heavy rainfall persists in the south and many rivers continued to maintain high water levels, he said.     More than 20 rivers reported water levels above flood-alarm lines in Zhejiang, Fujian and Anhui provinces. The county seat of Cangnan is flooded on Aug. 10, 2009 in east China's Zhejiang Province. Rainfall brought by typhoon "Morakot", the 8th this year, has flooded the county seat of Cangnan    Hui asked relevant departments to strengthen monitoring of flooding and forecasts of other disasters, so as to relocate people as quickly as possible to minimize casualties.     Typhoon Morakot has left eight people dead and three missing on the Chinese mainland after a powerful landing in east China Sunday, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs Tuesday.     As of Tuesday afternoon, Morakot had moved into the Yellow Sea, and would gradually pose less threat to coastal provinces in eastern China.

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's railways carried 60.75 million passengers nationwide around the seven days of National Day holidays and one day of Mid-Autumn Festival, the Ministry of Railways said on Friday.     The figure was 2.18 million more or 3.7 percent up from the same period last year, according to the ministry.     The peak transport season lasted for eleven days from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8. BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's new yuan-dominated loans in September was expected to reach 300-400 billion yuan (44-59 billion U.S. dollars), China Securities Journal reported on its website Tuesday.     The figure was less than that of August, which hit 410.4 billion yuan.     Liu Mingkang, Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), provided the figure during an International Monetary Fund (IMF) conference held in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday.     New loans in the first eight months stood at 8.15 trillion yuan, far exceeding the full-year target of five trillion yuan, according to he People's Bank of China, the central bank, this September.     The CBRC reiterated in September that domestic lenders should seek to enhance their risk management and stick to regulatory requirements to reduce worries over financial risks caused by rapid credit growth this year.     China began to adopt a moderately easy monetary policy in last November in a bid to maintain economic development amid the financial crisis.

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing has widened a ban on flying activities to include pigeons and kite flying in its latest efforts to beef up security ahead of the National Day celebrations, police said Tuesday.     The ban, which is effective from Sept. 15 to Oct. 8, applies to sports, recreational and advertising flight activities in the capital.     Li Runhua, head of the public security squadron of the Beijing municipal public security bureau, said residents were banned from releasing pigeons, and flying kites and balloons even at celebrations and shopping promotions.     Li encouraged residents to report to police if they find suspicious flying objects.     Police also started to check every vehicle entering Beijing at nearly 200 major road intersections and security check points on Tuesday.     Police would check drivers' and passengers' ID and confiscate imitation guns, fireworks and knives until Oct. 8.     More than 7,000 police have been patrolling the city's major roads and business districts since Aug. 22.     China will stage a wide array of activities, including a grand military parade in Beijing, to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on Oct. 1.     Chinese citizens will have an eight-day public holiday from Oct. 1 to 8.
