As embattled Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens' legal and political woes deepen, some White House officials are inquiring whether the controversy could also envelop the governor's former top campaign adviser, Nick Ayers, who is now Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff.Multiple officials in President Donald Trump's administration have privately put out feelers with Missouri Republican leaders in recent days to gauge whether Ayers would be interviewed as part of the state House committee investigation into Greitens, according to two sources familiar with the conversations.Ayers signed on with Greitens in 2015, but it is unclear exactly when the two men severed ties. "To this point he has not been." But the President's allies were also informed that a possible subpoena "is very much in play" because the committee's investigation is ongoing, added a separate source who also confirmed the conversations.The questions from White House officials were interpreted by those on the receiving end as oriented toward fact-finding, not as an attempt by the administration to influence the state House committee's work.Ayers and a spokesperson for Pence declined to comment.The state House probe, which is running parallel to investigations by Attorney General Josh Hawley and St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, made headlines this month with the release of a bombshell report detailing alleged sexual misconduct and assault by the governor against a woman with whom he has admitted having an affair.Greitens has denied committing any crime and instead called the situation "a personal mistake" from his time prior to taking office."As I have said before, I made a personal mistake before I was Governor. I did not commit a crime," his statement read.The House panel has expanded its scope to examine Greitens' campaign's acquisition and use of a nonprofit donor list, with plans to release a report on the subject Wednesday, including lengthy transcripts of interviews with witnesses.Greitens has already been charged by Circuit Attorney Gardner with one felony stemming from the donor list of The Mission Continues, a veterans charity Greitens founded, for allegedly obtaining the list without authorization from the charity."I stand by that work. I will have my day in court," said Greitens in an April statement.Ayers signed on with Greitens following the transfer of the list, however, meaning any investigatory interest in Ayers would likely be focused on the aftermath, or on other issues.The St. Louis Circuit Attorney initially opened her probe into Greitens earlier this year based on allegations that he photographed and blackmailed a woman with whom he was having an affair; Greitens has since been indicted on a felony invasion of privacy charge stemming from that investigation.Greitens trial is set for May 14.But there are signs that investigators are continuing to expand their efforts. Hawley's office confirmed that, earlier this month, they oversaw a deposition of Danny Laub, who steered Greitens' campaign in its early stages and was later named on a campaign finance disclosure as the source of the donor list. The Circuit Attorney's office has alleged that it was in fact Greitens who "directed the disclosure" of the list to the campaign.Laub's attorney, Sandy Boxerman, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Laub, "did sit for that deposition, was completely truthful and forthcoming and cooperative. What happens beyond this point is in the hands of other people."Ayers joined the campaign after Laub and became an essential adviser to Greitens, along with his acolyte Austin Chambers, who managed the campaign. Amid a resurgence of coronavirus cases nationally, the CDC said it expects to see coronavirus-related deaths increase in 11 states through July 24.The states on the CDC’s radar are Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. The CDC said these 11 states will likely exceed the number reported over the last four weeks.The rest of the country should see either the same or fewer deaths related to the coronavirus over the next four weeks.The CDC projects that 11,000 to 31,000 Americans will die from the coronavirus between now and July 24. 607

An Arizona man was awarded a 5,000 verdict after a jury decided a dentist at a popular dental chain wrongly pulled all his teeth without consent.DeWayne Smith won his case against Western Dental Services and Dr. Steven Nguyen in January, ending a three-year legal battle.“They treated him like garbage,” said Craigg Voigtmann, one of Smith’s attorneys. “They took out all of his teeth and then abandoned him.”Western Dental disputes the allegations. In a statement, the California-based chain called the jury’s decision surprising and disappointing.On a Saturday in January 2015, Smith scheduled an emergency visit at the Western Dental. He was having severe tooth pain in his right upper wisdom tooth. It was his first visit ever at the dental office.“I really don’t like going to dentists but I was in pain,” Smith said.At the appointment, Western employees and Nguyen told him Smith had serious dental issues and that he would eventually need to replace all his teeth with implants or dentures.Smith understood, and under pressure from Western Dental sales staff agreed to a long-term treatment plan. However, Smith said he “made it very clear” that he only wanted to have one tooth pulled that day to relieve the pain.During the procedure, Western Dental staff numbed the area, sedated Smith with nitrous oxide, and then packed his mouth full of gauze, according to court testimony.Smith left not knowing they had extracted all his teeth.“I go to pulling this gauze out and then I realize there’s nothing there on the bottom, and there’s nothing there on the top,” he said. “I just fell to the floor. I didn’t believe what I was seeing.”Employees testified that Nguyen left immediately after the procedure and that no one appeared to tell Smith what they did.After the procedure, Western Dental also sent Smith a ,000 bill, he said.“(It’s) like running over a dog in the middle of the road and driving off,” said Smith’s fiancé, Sharon.Nguyen testified that he had a direct conversation with Smith, who told him he wanted to have all of his teeth extracted that day. Western Dental also produced consent forms with Smith’s signature.But Smith’s attorneys claimed those forms were manufactured after the procedure. And one Western employee testified against the company in hours of damning testimony.Bianca Esquer was a patient care coordinator at Western Dental from 2013 to 2015. She worked directly with Smith during his appointment.In a deposition and at trial, Esquer said that Smith made it clear he did not want a full extraction that day. She also discussed how employees and dentists are paid bonuses and commissions based on how much treatment patients get.Esquer also testified it’s hard to believe anyone would agree to have all their teeth pulled on their first visit and without detailed planning.“You don’t send someone home with a full extraction without teeth,” she said.Smith was not provided dentures from Western Dental until months after his procedure, he said.Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix reached out to Nguyen for comment through his attorney, Jeff Tonner. Fast forward a few weeks, and she had a check in hand for .80.If you are wondering if you have unclaimed property, here’s how to find out.Search online at state agenciesThe National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators’ website, Unclaimed.org, links to agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and other territories. With these sites, you can search unclaimed property databases for free. The organization also sponsors MissingMoney.com, which lets users search multiple states at once, though not every state participates.To pull up the property database, you will likely be asked to enter a last name. You could also enter a first name, city or ZIP code to help narrow the search. From there, you may find entries detailing the owner’s last known address, property amount and the company that initially held the funds. Depending on the database, the state may provide the exact amount of the property, or give a range, such as “under ” or “ or more.”Barlow says her entry was from an old internet provider. The company owed her a refund because she moved and switched off service before her billing period ended. But it didn’t have the correct forwarding address, so it sent the money to the state.
