One day after 17 lives were taken during a school shooting in Florida, a grandmother in Everett, Washington was given credit on Thursday for foiling a planned school shooting, according to a police press release. According to the press release released on Thursday, the grandmother of 18-year-old high school student Joshua Alexander O'Connor called 911 after finding O'Connor's journal that allegedly detailed plans to kill classmates. After the grandmother showed law enforcement the journal, O'Connor was arrested on Tuesday for attempted murder. Police said detectives seized O’Connor’s journal, inert grenades, a cellular phone and a High Point 9 mm carbine rifle following a search warrant. “This is a case where the adage ‘see something, say something’ potentially saved many lives,” said Everett Police Chief Dan Templeman. “It is critically important for community members, to include students and parents, to remain observant and immediately report odd or suspicious behaviors with our children or with fellow students. We were fortunate that a family member believed there were credible threats and contacted law enforcement for further investigation. I’m sure the decision was difficult to make, but fortunately, it was the correct one.”O'Connor's bail has been set at million. O'Connor is a student at ACES High School in Everett. (KGTV) -- The Oceanside Police Department told residents not to panic after the department received several calls about a strong smell.According to authorities, the smell is outgassing from the ocean and is non-toxic.Ocean outgassing happens when the ocean releases gasses that were trapped or dissolved.A similar incident was reported in La Jolla earlier this year. At this time, it's unclear what is causing the outgassing.  457

OLDSMAR, Fla. — Deputies in Pinellas County, Florida arrested an 18-year-old for allegedly doing doughnuts on a golf course in a gated community.It happened on Sunday around 2:30 a.m. inside the East Lake Woodlands community in Oldsmar. Deputies arrested Luca Canalungo for criminal mischief. Deputies say he caused at least ,000 in damage to the course. He allegedly drove his vehicle on several areas of the golf course greens and damaged multiple turf areas causing significant damage to the 7th and 8th holes, according to an arrest affidavit. An 18-year-old arrested after deputies say he did doughnuts on a golf course. One California family narrowly survived two life-threatening situations less than 24 hours apart, but they just feel lucky to be alive.Carmen Edman described her harrowing escape from Malibu on November 8 as her family home was destroyed by wildfire."The fire was everywhere, " Carmen told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS.The frantic moments came just a day after her daughter, Deseriee, survived a deadly mass shooting at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, when a gunman burst into the bar with a handgun on November 7. By the time the gunfire stopped, 12 people were dead."I was in panic mode since Wednesday night -- since that phone call -- and stress levels were off the charts," Carmen Edman said.The Edman family got to safety, but their Malibu home burned to the ground."Two-near death experiences that you just don't expect," Deseriee Edman said."I'm trying to stay as strong as possible for my family and friends, and I'm trying to look at everything as positively as possible even though it's pretty hard to do so in these type of situations," she told the affiliate.The Edmans credit Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus with saving their family.Sgt. Helus was fatally shot when he responded to the call of a shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill. (KGTV) — An investigation is underway to find a mail thief who appears to be targeting military families living on Camp Pendleton.A few weeks ago, Jessica, a Marine wife who lives on the base, went to her mailbox and saw a card from a friend in Arkansas."Opened up my card, and after I opened it, I realized there was a slit down the side," said Jessica.After a closer look, Jessica realized someone had been in her mail."A clean cut down the side. Didn't get caught on anything. A machine didn't make this ... Just irritated. It's an invasion of privacy," said Jessica.Jessica says her card never did contain any cash or gift cards, but others on base haven't been as lucky."They're furious, and they want something done," said Jessica.Jessica says on various Facebook pages connected to the base, hundreds have posted photos of tampered mail received in the past two months. The envelopes are usually missing cash, gift cards or checks."Pretty disgusting. Pretty shameful ... It's no accident it's happening to us. Military families are an easy target. We're not with our families. Families make up for it by sending us a little extra, definitely for our kids," said Jessica.So what is the commonality when it comes to the mail? It's processed and delivered by the Postal Service. The closest post office is about a mile-and-a-half from the base.The Postal Inspection Service confirms they've begun an investigation, along with an internal probe.
