BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China will unswervingly promote the policy of reform and opening up, while creating sound environment for foreign companies operating in China, Vice Premier Wang Qishan told senior U.S. officials Monday.Wang exchanged views on China-U.S. ties and economic and trade cooperation with Lawrence Summers, head of U.S. President Barack Obama's National Economic Council, and Deputy National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, in a meeting in Beijing.Wang said the two countries should bolster cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, investment, finance, new energy and infrastructure upgrading, as their economies are interdependent and complimentary to each other.China is ready to work with the United States to well implement consensus reached by state leaders of the two countries, for sustainable, healthy and steady development of bilateral ties, he said.Wang said the international community should enhance cooperation because the world economy, though on the way to recovery, still encounters twists and turns.He said China is focusing on the change of the growth pattern for more balanced development of the economy.Summers and Donilon briefed Wang on the U.S. economy and the Obama administration's measures to stimulate the economy and create jobs.They stressed that the United States and China should strengthen coordination in macro policies and promote cooperation for a strong, balanced and sustainable growth of global economy.Also on Monday, Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with the two U.S. officials.Li, also head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the Sino-U.S. ties had maintained a stable development since President Obama took office.China would work with the United States to enhance dialogues and cooperation, while properly handling the differences, to push forward the bilateral ties, he said.8 Summers said the United States attached great importance to the U.S.-Sino relations and firmly believed that the two countries had broad interests and faced with common challenges, including sustainable development of global economy, regional security and climate change.He said the United States was committed to working with China for a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also met with Summers and Donilon on Monday. XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade surplus was approximately 84 billion U.S. dollars from Jan. to July, down 20 percent year on year, and the year 2010 is expected to see a small trade surplus, said Commerce Minister Chen Deming on Tuesday.Chen made the projection at the ongoing World Investment Forum that runs from Sept. 7 to 9 in southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen.China has seen a trade surplus in recent years, but with a decreasing margin, and the trade surplus takes up a very small proportion of the GDP, noted Chen."China's foreign trade policy aims to stabilize exports and increase imports, which can boost China's economy and also bring positive impacts to neighboring countries," said Chen.Customs statistics show that China's import and export value in the first seven months reached 1,617 billion U.S. dollars, with exports worth 850.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.6 percent, and imports at 766.6 billion U.S. dollars, up by 47.2 percent.China's trade surplus in 2009 was more than 190 billion U.S. dollars, down 34.4 percent from the 290 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.The World Investment Forum is the global meeting on investment and development issues organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Held every two years, the forum aims to strengthen international cooperation in the interest of promoting international investment and its contribution to economic growth and development.

DAMASCUS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser Jia Qinglin arrived here Friday for an official friendly visit to Syria.In a written speech released at the airport, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), hailed the development of bilateral ties between China and Syria since they established diplomatic relations in 1956."China attaches great importance to the friendly ties with Syria," he said, pledging joint efforts with Syria to enhance political mutual trust, boost traditional friendship, bolster substantial cooperation and promote common development.Jia said he was looking forward to exchanging views with Syrian leaders on the further development of bilateral relations and on major international and regional issues of common concern."I believe my visit will help the people of China and Syria better know each other and boost their friendship," he said.Syria is the first leg of Jia's four-nation tour from Oct. 29 to Nov. 11.
