Tesla has picked the Austin, Texas, area as the site for its largest auto assembly plant employing at least 5,000 workers.Governor Greg Abbott made the announcement on Wednesday. "Tesla is one of the most exciting and innovative companies in the world, and we are proud to welcome its team to the State of Texas," said Governor Abbott. "Texas has the best workforce in the nation and we’ve built an economic environment that allows companies like Tesla to innovate and succeed. Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas will keep the Texas economy the strongest in the nation and will create thousands of jobs for hard-working Texans. I look forward to the tremendous benefits that Tesla's investment will bring to Central Texas and to the entire state."The move will generate over billion in capital investment.The company will build on a 2,100-acre tract in Travis County and will get more than million in tax breaks from the county and a local school district. The new factory will build Tesla's upcoming Cybertruck pickup. It also will be a second U.S. factory for the Model Y small SUV. The region that's home to the University of Texas at Austin and tech companies such as Dell Inc., was a candidate all along. But Tulsa, Oklahoma, showed up on the shortlist in mid-May. Stocks fell sharply Monday, dragged down by reports that Apple's newest line of phones may not be selling as well as Apple or its investors had hoped.The Dow fell 450 points and the Nasdaq tumbled 2.8%.Apple's stock fell once more after the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple has cut orders for its iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.The new iPhones, which Apple unveiled in September, cost more than previous versions. The 9 iPhone XR is the least expensive new iPhone, but it costs more than last year's cheapest model, the iPhone 8.The iPhone XS Max can cost up to ,449. The higher prices -- without many more features -- could be driving customers to keep their current phones longer or buy last year's models.Apple declined to comment about the Journal story or broader concerns about iPhone demand.Shares of Apple fell 4% and have now plunged about 20% from the all-time high it hit a few months ago, when Apple (AAPL) was worth more than trillion.The stock ended a 5-day losing skid on Friday after an analyst at Morgan Stanley suggested that the supplier concerns are overdone.Apple, which is a member of the Dow, was hurting the blue chips too.Several makers of chips and other components used in iPhones have warned of soft sales and profit in recent weeks, citing sluggish demand for higher-end smartphones.To that end, shares of Apple suppliers, such as Qorvo (QRVO), Broadcom (AVGO), Cirrus Logic (CRUS) and even Apple's key Anrdoid phone rival Samsung were all lower Monday too. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An upcoming rule change at the U.S. Department of Justice means federal inmate executions, which are currently carried out by lethal injection could happen by other means, such as a firing squad or electrocution.Currently, all federal executions are done via lethal injection unless a court specifically orders otherwise. The rule change gives the federal government greater flexibility to execute people by other means.The change states that federal executions are to be carried out by lethal injection “or by any other manner prescribed by the law of the State in which the sentence was imposed or which has been designated by a court.”According to the Death Penalty Information Center, all states that allow the death penalty authorize a lethal injection method. Nine states allow electrocution, seven allow lethal gas and three allow a firing squad. Most states that allow methods other than lethal injection do so only under the provision that the injection is found to be unconstitutional, unavailable or impractical.The DOJ rule change goes into effect on Dec. 24, before three more federal inmates are scheduled to be executed. Inmates are scheduled to be executed on Jan. 12, Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.If executions by other means will happen, it’s unlikely they will happen at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, where federal executions typically take place. The DOJ notice states that the Terre Haute complex is equipped for carrying out executions only by lethal injection.
