SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - With car horns blaring, cellphone video captured a fight breaking out at a busy intersection in San Diego near Montgomery High School.The incident played out at Palm Avenue and Beyer Way - just feet from the high school - as school let out Friday afternoon. In the crosswalk, there was a flurry off punches. A teen in a hoodie is recorded battering another student on the ground. Some other teens joins the fray and more punches are traded."It's stupid. Why have a fight so dramatic like that? It could cause a car accident," a student told 10News. We are not naming the student at the request of their family.The student doesn't know what sparked the fight, but says those involved were juniors. The student told 10News this was the third big fight on campus this year. "Just make us look bad. Students should set a good example for our school," the student said.There were no accidents, but some of those drivers did get out of their cars. A witness tells us some tried to stop the fight. In the now-viral video, a crowd of people spill across the crosswalk. The melee lasted more than 20 minutes before it broke up. Police arrived but did not make any arrests.Janet Paz, a mother of two students at the school, says it sends a bad message."Makes me feel worried that kids aren't safe in school," said Paz.A spokesperson with the Sweetwater Union High School District says they believe they've identified the three-to-five students involved and are mulling possible discipline. Part of the investigation will include determining the cause of the fight and addressing any campus-wide issues. 1628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Patients were reunited with the men and women who care for them on Saturday at The Heart Institute at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. The event marked the 34th annual Heart Party. Hundreds of young heart patients and their families showed up for games, gifts and fun. Upstairs, doctors and nurses were caring for a couple newborns who had received heart transplants. For one baby to receive a heart, another has to give it. At just four months old, Zoey has taken part in the Lifesharing program.  553

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 64-year-old man is recovering after he was beaten in Kearny Mesa by a group of street racers so severely he had a brain bleed and fractured disk. "I felt my RV jostling around, like maybe they were standing on my bumper, so I got out and went around back to look and I look up and someone's standing on my RV," said the victim, who did not wish to be identified.Police said the beating happened on June 28 around 9:30 p.m. A group of street racers arrived in the area for an apparent “meet up” and gathered into a large group. Multiple vehicles arrived at the location and began doing “burn-outs” in the street. Some members of the group climbed on top of the victim’s RV. When the victim walked out of his vehicle to confront them, three of the men attacked him. Another man stole the man's phone from his pocket as he was lying on the ground unconscious. "The last thing I remember is one of his buddies jumping out and I don’t know what happened after that; I probably got hit from behind."The suspects fled the area in a grey, possibly 2003 Audi A4 sedan. The man was left lying in the street. Employees from a nearby business ran out to help him and called an ambulance. San Diego County Crime Stoppers along with investigators from the San Diego Police Department’s Eastern Division are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the attackers. Officers are investigating the attack as a felony battery and robbery case.Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspects is asked to call SDPD’s Eastern Division at 858-495-7957 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- COVID-19 is causing some changes for voters in San Diego county. Your usual polling location may not be active for the November elections.“Because of the pandemic, it has created a level of uncertainty in our universe,” says Registrar of Voter Michael Vu.Vu says to ensure physical distancing the county has consolidated the 1,600 small voting precincts into 235 super poll locations for voters to cast their ballots.“We just want to make sure everyone does it in a safe and healthy way.”Vu says they will be expanding the technology at each site with the ballot marking machines introduced during the primary elections back in March.“There will be, on average, 7 of those ballot marking devices per super polls location,” says Vu. “But we will also be having a number of voting booths because we will have pre-printed paper ballots for voters.”To help with social distancing and the influx of voters, there will be seven different check-in stations at each site to move people along.On Thursday, the Registrar of Voters office will be sending out sample ballots and voter information pamphlets. Those packets will contain each voter’s designated super poll location.The super poll locations will be open for voting starting October 31st.Michael Vu says the mail-in ballots will be sent out on October 5th. 1332

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The San Diego Air & Space Museum held a celebration exactly fifty years to the day of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins’ historic mission to the Moon a half century ago, the Museum announced today.Apollo 11 was the first time a human set foot on the Moon, one of mankind’s most incredible achievements. The San Diego Air & Space Museum celebrated their accomplishments with a special event held during their after hours on Saturday. The public was invited to explore the exhibits, hear from a specially organized panel and watched the launch the San Diego premier of “The Day We Walked on the Moon,” a special documentary from the Smithsonian Channel commemorating the Apollo 11 Moon landing.At the event, people were reminiscing on where they were during the historic moment 50 years ago.
