BOAO, Hainan, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Entrepreneurs and economists of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have considered the expected signing of a cross-Strait economic pact as a top priority in further development of their trade relations.The long-awaited Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), aiming to normalize mainland-Taiwan economic ties and bring the two economies closer, is hoped to be signed by the end of June.Fredrick Chien, chief advisor of Taiwan's Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, said here Sunday the ECFA will be an "extremely important" agreement to strengthen future development of cross-Strait relations."As long as we make this stride, the cross-Strait economic and trade exchanges will get much closer," Chien said at the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference which concluded Sunday in southern island province of Hainan.He jointly presided over a round-table meeting with Dai Xianglong, chairman of the mainland's National Council for Social Security Fund.

NEW DELHI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Saturday agreed that India and China should further their cooperation in all fields.During his meeting with Singh, Hui conveyed cordial greetings from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Singh. WASHINGTON, April 12 (Xinhua) -- China hopes various parties will continue to step up diplomatic efforts and actively seek effective ways to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiations, Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Monday.During a meeting with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama, Hu also said China and the United States share the same overall goal on the Iranian nuclear issue.Hu said China stands ready to maintain consultation and coordination with the United States and other parties within the 5-plus-1 mechanism, which includes the permanent UN Security Council members Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States and Germany, and in the United Nations and through other channels.Hu stated China's principled position on the Iranian nuclear issue, saying China is always committed to upholding the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and peace and stability in the Middle East.

BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged local governments and builders to ensure quake survivors in northwestern province of Qinghai have warm places to stay this winter."It's a priority for the government to build more permanent houses so quake survivors can move in before winter," Hui said at a State Council, or Cabinet, meeting in Beijing on Thursday, according to a statement released after the meeting.At the same time the government must start preparing enough tents, fuels and stoves for winter heating for those living in temporary shelters as soon as possible, he said.Winter temperatures in high-altitude Yushu region, where a 7.1-magnitude quake on April 14 killed about 2,200 people, could drop to 20 degrees below zero.Hui also urged efforts to provide enough food, improve medical services,and attend to the needs of vulnerable groups like orphans in the quake zone.The reconstruction in the quake zone would be mainly funded by the central government. Hui urged builders, mainly from other parts of China to aid Qinghai's reconstruction efforts, to carefully carry out rebuilding projects with high efficiency and quality.
