Three inmates in a suburban Atlanta jail are being credited with saving a deputy's life. The Gwinett County Sheriff's Office says the trio noticed the officer was not feeling well as he conducted security procedures. After he returned to his seat, the deputy lost consciousness. He then fell to the floor and hit his head. The inmates began pounding on the doors loudly enough to wake up the deputy, who then opened the cell doors. After that, he lost consciousness again. But the inmates stayed by his side and administered aid until help arrived. The deputy is now recovering at home."These inmates came to his aid because our deputy, like most law enforcement officers, treats people with the dignity they deserve," the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. "These inmates had no obligation whatsoever to render aid to a bleeding, vulnerable deputy, but they didn't hesitate. Many people have strong opinions about law enforcement officers and criminals, but this incident clearly illustrates the potential goodness found in both.""We're proud of our deputy, whose strong desire to serve gave him the strength to activate the door release when he believed an inmate needed his help. In doing so, he released his rescuers. We're proud of them, too. Thank you." 1278

There's a growing number of complaints on social media about a new way to see movies in theaters.MoviePass lets you see a new film every day for just a month. However, members nationwide say they're being dropped from the program for violating terms of service that state, no 3D or premium movies. Many customers are wondering if MoviePass is eliminating members who see too many movies — such as four or five a week."My pass was terminated. They claimed that I had used the pass for premium tickets. [But I] Never [did], I am a rule follower," Deb Tobin said after being asked if she had ever used her pass for a premium movie.MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe says theaters may have mistakenly sent users to a premium showing. The best way to keep your pass from being terminated is to read the rules and follow them closely.Full MoviePass statement:"A small percentage of MoviePass users were removed from the system, due to violating the terms of service. We diligently review card transactions to prevent fraudulent activity and take our Terms of Service agreement very seriously. If individuals abuse the service, we must take action so that our model continues to be sustainable for everyone. If customers do feel there has been a mistake, they should feel free to reach out to MoviePass customer service via the phone number on the back of their card. We are diligently reviewing all complaints on a case by case basis." 1438

This year, more than half of all U.S. states have had confirmed or possible cases of acute flaccid myelitis, the polio-like illness that can cause paralysis and mostly affects children, according to an exclusive CNN analysis.CNN reached out to health departments in every state; 48 states responded, plus the District of Columbia. Of those, 30 states said they had cases that were confirmed, suspected or being investigated -- including 15 states that said they had confirmed cases in 2018.In total, CNN found 47 confirmed cases and 49 more that were suspected or being investigated, for a total of 96.The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which releases only confirmed numbers, says 16 states had 38 cases as of September 30. It does not identify the states. 782

Those who grew up on "Ren & Stimpy" may not have realized that they were watching the animated show that would change all the rules.Subversive, clever, and often outright demented, the chaotic tale of a dysfunctional friendship between a nerve-wracked Chihuahua and a sweet, dopey Manx cat connected with children and adults alike, helping lift Nickelodeon to pop culture prominence in the 1990s.Driven by a renegade spirit, the series slipped in edgy humor underneath executives' noses, made bold philosophical points, and disturbing psychological observations. A towering achievement that has only grown in stature over the decades since it aired, the characters continue to retain a cult following.Taking a cue from the ironic catchphrase/refrain "Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story" takes an incisive look at the show and proves that the way the sausage was made was often brutal. While directors Ron Cicero and Kimo Easterwood have a clear respect for the show's achievements and influence, they take an equally intense focus on exploring the dark underbelly of the facade.Through interviews with the likes of Bob Camp, Vincent Waller, Billy West, Chris Reccardi, Jim Gomez, Vanessa Coffey about the quirks, obsessions, and dark tendencies of series creator John Kricfalusi.Workers complained about unreasonable and unstable leadership from Kricfalusi, who had a tendency for self-destruction that plagued him at every stage of his career. A visionary who failed to yield to the influence of others as he remained devoted to his creative vision, he often drove away those who he relied on. He also exploited his fame to indulge in romance and power fantasies with young fans.Kricfalusi opens up in a shockingly candid manner, apologizing for some of his decisions while doubling down on others. What emerges is a complete, complex portrait of a troubled man who started from nothing, had it all and then lost just about everything. The series aired from 1991 to 1995 on Nickelodeon, then came back in a brief, adult-themed incarnation in 2003. Kricfalusi has now lost most of his creative relevance, and apparently, also his drive. While "Ren & Stimpy" superfans will get the most out of the documentary, it also makes for a fascinating ride for anyone with a passing interest in the evolving form of animation. There was little happiness or joy that went into the making of the masterpiece.RATING: 3.5 stars out of 4.Phil Villarreal TwitterPhil Villarreal FacebookPhil Villarreal Amazon Author PagePhil Villarreal Rotten Tomatoes This story was originally reported by Phil Villarreal at KGUN. 2628

T-Mobile and Sprint finally agreed to a massive telecom merger after years of negotiations punctuated by two breakups. The  billion merger, announced Sunday, values Sprint near its current share price of .50.The tie-up would position the telecom companies as fiercer competitors to Verizon and AT&T, which have long dominated the US market."I'm excited to announce that @TMobile & @Sprint have reached an agreement to come together to form a new company -- a larger, stronger competitor that will be a force for positive change for all US consumers and businesses! Watch this & click through for details." said T-Mobile CEO John Legere, in a tweet Sunday.A report that the deal was getting close drove up Sprint's stock price by 8% on Friday and T-Mobile's price edged up as well. The stock price for SoftBank, a Japanese conglomerate with a majority stake in Sprint, rose by 3%.Sprint and T-Mobile first discussed a merger in 2014 but scrapped it because of concerns about regulatory challenges from the Obama administration. The companies expected to have a better shot at the merger under the Trump administration.Sprint stock tanks as T-Mobile merger said to collapseSoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son met with Trump the month before he took office to talk up an investment in US businesses.A few weeks later, T-Mobile's Legere said he was open to "various forms of consolidation" when asked about a potential merger with Sprint and SoftBank under the Trump administration. But last November, after much speculation, the two companies issued a statement saying they "have ceased talks.""While we couldn't reach an agreement to combine our companies, we certainly recognize the benefits of scale through a potential combination. However, we have agreed that it is best to move forward on our own," Marcelo Claure, the Sprint CEO, said at the time.Sprint and T-Mobile's announcement is just the latest step in an ongoing movement towards telecom consolidation. AT&T is in talks to acquire Time Warner, which owns CNN and CNNMoney. The outcome of that billion merger-in-the-making depends on a case in federal court, which is pending the decision of the judge. 2203
