Buoyed by Pfizer's promising update on a potential COVID-19 vaccine and Saturday's presidential election call, U.S. markets skyrocketed on Monday morning as investors eyed the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel.The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more than 1,300 points in the moments after trading opened, an increase of about 5%. The NASDAQ saw an increase of about 150 points, or about 1%, while the S&P 500 jumped 120 points or about 3%.The Dow closed Monday at 29,157, which is up nearly 3% from Friday's close. The Dow has almost made a full recovery from its February 12 high point of 29,551. The jump came hours after Pfizer announced that is COVID-19 vaccine candidate has been 90% effective so far in promoting protection against the virus in Phase 3 trials. While the announcement does not mean a vaccine is imminent — in fact, it could be more than six months before most Americans will have a chance to get the vaccine — it does mean Pfizer is on track to apply for Emergency Usa Authorization in the coming months.Pfizer's stock exploded in early trading Monday, jumping about 3 points or an increase of 8%.Monday continues what has been a roller coaster 2020 for American markets. CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three people were taken to the hospital and two others are in custody after a Border Patrol chase led to a crash in Campo Tuesday night. According to Border Patrol, agents tried to stop a 23-year-old San Diego resident driving a blue Mazda MPV around 5:05 p.m. near Old Highway 80 and McCain Valley Road for possible immigration-related violations. The driver refused to stop, sparking the chase. During the chase, agents say the woman drove onto Shasta Way at a “high rate of speed” before driving over a dip and losing control of the vehicle. According to border patrol, the 23-year-old had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Border Patrol says four men were found in the back of the vehicle. The men are between the ages of 24 and 39 and all claim to be residents of Mexico. Two of the men were taken to the hospital for treatment while the other two were taken into custody after refusing medical aid, Border Patrol says. 1139
CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman was stabbed in the parking lot of the Carlsbad Costco Friday evening, police said. Officers arrived at the store at 951 Palomar Airport Road east of Interstate 5 just before 3 p.m. They found the victim in serious condition with several stab wounds.The suspect, 62-year-old Charles Higgins, left the scene before police arrived. He was arrested later in Temecula with the help of Murrieta Police, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.Police say the victim and suspect knew each other and this was not a random act. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — Three people were treated for gunshot wounds and one person was taken into custody in Carlsbad following a shooting Saturday morning.Carlsbad Police responded to calls of shots fired at the Pacific View Apartment Homes complex in the 5100 block of Whitman Way just before 6 a.m.Officers arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds in a courtyard area of the complex. Both were treated by Carlsbad Fire crews and taken to a nearby hospital.MAP: Crime happening in your neighborhoodPolice later located another man with a gunshot wound in the apartment complex. He too was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.Carlsbad detectives were on the scene Saturday investigating the shooting. They believe the three knew each other and the shooting was not a random act.Police said one person is in custody but did not say whether that person was one of the three who were shot.
