Don't worry too much: Jeff Bezos could still deliver a holiday surprise.Shares of Amazon tumbled nearly 10% Friday because investors worried the company's holiday sales could be the worst in years.Amazon (AMZN) is the second-largest retailer in the country, trailing only Walmart (WMT) in annual sales. So a weaker holiday quarter for Amazon could be a bad sign for the overall economy.The Jeff Bezos-led company said Thursday it expected fourth quarter sales to be in a range of .5 billion and .5 billion. That's less than what was expected, and the .5 billion midpoint of this guidance is an increase of just 15% from a year ago.A sales jump of 15% may sound great, but it's pretty tepid for Amazon, which posted a revenue bump of 38% in last year's fourth quarter and increases of more than 20% in both the fourth quarters of 2015 and 2016.The last time Amazon reported a fourth quarter sales increase that was less than 20% was back in 2014, when revenue was up 14.6%. 1097

A woman in Illinois who tried to spike a toddler's sippy cup of milk with nail polish remover has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of Carol Stream, Illinois was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 13 earlier this year.In May 2016, Vazquez-Hernandez mixed "one inch" of nail polish remover with milk and gave it to her husband's daughter. The girl immediately spit out the milk when she tasted the nail polish remover and was taken to the hospital. She was later released, and tests later revealed that her milk had been spiked.The girl had been fathered by Vazquez-Hernandez's husband with another woman, and Vazquez-Hernandez reportedly tried to poison the girl in order to punish her father.During her sentencing, the Chicago Tribune reports that Vazquez-Hernandez told the judge that she thanked God that the child was OK, but the judge was reportedly concerned about Vazquez-Hernandez's "lack of remorse."Vazquez-Hernandez will be required to serve at least five years of her 10-year sentence before being released.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. After former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s stay in the hospital, Christie told the New York Times on Thursday he was “wrong” not to wear a mask inside the White House before becoming infected with the coronavirus.Christie, President Donald Trump, and a number of others who had contact with Trump and his staff, tested positive for the coronavirus several weeks ago. Christie spent nearly a week in the hospital, and he told the New York Times he was in the intensive care unit.Christie, who has since been released from the hospital and is recovering, expressed regret for his actions inside of the White House. Christie was among a group of GOP advisers helping Trump with preparing for the Sept. 30 debate.“I believed when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that I and many others underwent every day,” Christie said in the statement to the New York Times. “I was wrong. I was wrong not to wear a mask at the Amy Coney Barrett announcement and I was wrong not to wear a mask at my multiple debate prep sessions with the president and the rest of the team."Christie said that the public should take the virus seriously.“I hope that my experience shows my fellow citizens that you should follow CDC guidelines in public no matter where you are and wear a mask to protect yourself and others,” he told the Times.Kellyanne Conway, who also was on Trump’s debate prep team, tested positive for the coronavirus.A contingent of others who attended Barrett’s nomination ceremony tested positive for the virus, including three US senators, Notre Dame President John Jenkins, and an unnamed White House journalist.The virus also reached others in the presidential family, with both first lady Melania Trump and son Barron Trump testing positive. Presidential physician Dr. Sean Conley released multiple statements downplaying Trump’s prognosis, only for Conley to later reveal more serious details of Trump’s diagnosis.It was learned in the days following Trump’s positive coronavirus test that he ran a significantly high fever and needed supplemental oxygen.Following his 10-day isolation period, Trump immediately held a public event at the White House, inviting hundreds of people who sat shoulder to shoulder, many of whom without masks.
