PARIS, Tenn. — The daughter of Hank Williams Jr. was killed in a crash in Henry County, Tennessee, Saturday night.The Tennessee Highway Patrol said 27-year-old Katherine Williams-Dunning was driving and towing a boat on Highway 79 near Paris when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the dividing median of the highway and rolled over.THP said her husband, Tyler Dunning, was injured in the crash. Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 2-year-old girl at a hotel in Wickliffe, Ohio on Friday night.The shooting happened around 11 p.m. at the Econo Lodge Wickliffe-Cleveland East, 28611 Euclid Ave. Police said it appears the child's mother was handling a gun when it went off and the 2-year-old girl was shot in the chest.The mother initially told the 911 operator the gun's safety was off, but a few seconds later said the safety was on when she dropped the weapon."The safety was on when I dropped the gun and the bullet shot her. The gun dropped, I dropped my gun," the mother told the 911 operator. "She's gone. My baby's gone. She's not breathing at all. She's gone."The child was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from the injury, according to authorities.Police said the shooting appears to be accidental. The mother had the weapon legally and had a concealed carry permit. It will be left up to the Lake County Crime Lab and the prosecutor's office to determine if any charges are filed, police said. 1062

Parents are still confused about why dozens of Wisconsin students got sick in March.Jesse Coates's 13-year-old daughter went to the emergency room after passing out at the Oconomowoc Arts Center in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. She's one of the 200 students who mysteriously got sick at Oconomowoc High School and the Oconomowoc Arts Center in March."They were told that it was potentially a CO leak and that's why they were evacuating the building," Coates said.But the Oconomowoc Area School District said it wasn't carbon monoxide."There's just a lot of unanswered questions," Coates said. "You don't want to see it happen again," he said.Even other school districts have taken notice. After seeing the news, Wauwatosa decided to take action in case they ever do have a real carbon monoxide leak.Some schools in Wisconsin are installing CO2 detectors, even though they are not required by law."It's just one more step we can do to ensure the safety of our students," said Melissa Nettesheim, the manager of building and grounds for Wauwatosa School District.At about each and less than 10 minutes to install, Nettesheim said the district is putting at least one carbon monoxide detector in each of its buildings."All the alarms are in place in case carbon monoxide levels did reach a level that would require us to evacuate the building," Nettesheim said.She said that's never happened. And that it's a proactive measure not required by law.Wisconsin state law says "the owner of a residential building shall install a carbon monoxide detector in all of the following places."All of the listed locations are residential. Nothing in the law talks about schools.Wisconsin's largest school district, Milwaukee Public Schools, doesn't have carbon monoxide detectors.Oconomowoc's high school has detectors that "would alarm in the presence of carbon monoxide."Coates still feels uneasy."What caused my daughter and all her friends to get sick?" he wondered out loud. PARMA, Ohio — It's a story 30 years in the making.Shortly before graduating from Parma Senior High School in Parma, Ohio, Jim Biehl customized, purchased and started wearing his class ring.It was your typical class ring with a green emerald gem, a cross etched below the stone and Biehl's signature on the inside.But Biehl would only spend about one year with that ring.When he was 17 years old he went on a church trip to Michigan. During the journey, the group stopped in Parma, Michigan. Ironically, that's when he would lose that brand new class ring."I woke up one morning to move on to the next destination of our trip, the next leg, and couldn't find it," Biehl said. "Haden't seen hide nor hair of it since then."The then-teenager spent a couple of years searching for the lost piece of jewelry only to come up short each and every time.Biehl thought the ring was gone forever — until recently.Biehl said he was alerted to a Facebook post inside the Parma Senior High School Alumni Association. Pizza Hut has teamed up with an educational non-profit to launch a series of antiracism resources for educators.On Wednesday, the pizza company announced they were partnering with First Book on the initiative Empowering Educators, which will provide books, videos, and activities for educators to use when talking about race.The initiative was created after First Book surveyed teachers in 2019 and found that 66% wanted to find a way to talk about racism with students, but didn't feel comfortable doing so.“From the neighborhood to the national level, America is on a critical journey: from identifying racism, to deeper understanding – and finally to dismantling systemic racism,” said Kyle Zimmer, president, CEO and co-founder of First Book in the press release. “To support this journey, First Book is honored to partner with Pizza Hut to launch an unprecedented effort to empower educators – and the children they serve.
