 SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Twelve members of San Diego's California Conservation Corps returned home today, after a one-month deployment. On October 10th, 2018, Category 4 Hurricane Michael approached the Florida Panhandle. 155 mile-per-hour winds wiped out Mexico Beach City, Florida. For the last month, Corps members were assisting residents recover from the disaster."We did a lot of damage assessment analysis, temporary roofing, we did debris removal, tree removal," Corpsman Antonio Sanchez said. The CCC is a state agency that offers young adults environment-related jobs. Most of the work is in California, but they can be deployed elsewhere. This was crew leader Rebecca Voorhees' first time out of state."It was very eye-opening because we've seen fires. But not things like this," Voorhees said. "It makes you a little more humble because it's not just you here we're helping. We can help all over the world."But their hearts are always at home, especially on Thanksgiving. "I'm really glad to be home. 30 days is a really long time away from family, and so I'm going to go home and spend some time with them," Sanchez said. Their Thanksgiving vacation lasts only a few days. When they go back into the office on Monday, they will be put back on the "available for deployment" list. Their next stop could be to Northern California's fire-affected areas, where they go back to doing what they do best."We help people," Voorhees said. (CNN) -- A new entry in "The Hunger Games" series is on the way, though fans will likely have to navigate the violent world without Katniss Everdeen.Scholastic announced an untitled prequel novel to the bestselling young adult series, set 64 years before the events of the eponymous first novel. The original trilogy followed heroine Everdeen in the fictional dystopia of Panem as she squared off against other teens in a fight to the death and eventually led an uprising against the oppressive ruling class.Author Suzanne Collins said the new story is set during the "Dark Days," 10 years after the start of the titular games that reduced citizens to savagery and murder to survive."With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, and what we perceive is required for our survival," she said, adding that the nascent days of the rebellion provide ample ground for new characters to "define their views of humanity."Set for a May 2020 release, the newest "Hunger Games" novel will arrive almost 10 years after the last, "Mockingjay," was published.The series spawned a movie franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss with Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore. (AP) — Airbnb will prohibit one-night rentals over Halloween weekend as part of its ongoing effort to crack down on party houses. The action comes nearly a year after a deadly shooting at an Airbnb in Orinda, Calif. Five people were killed in the shooting, which happened during an unauthorized Halloween party. Airbnb says it will ban one-night rentals of entire homes in the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 30 or Oct. 31. Previously booked rentals will be canceled and Airbnb will offer refunds.
