SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Point Loma boy must now walk to and from school after a thief stole his custom BMX bike. San Diego Police need the public's help to find the man who took the boy's prized possession. BMX riding is 9-year-old Bradley Ramos' favorite pastime. It's a passion that runs in the family. His father, Aaron, dabbled it in as a child. So did Bradley's cousin, Tyler."This bike was actually his cousin's bike when his cousin was his age. Now his cousin is 21 years old, so the bike has been in the family for a while," Ramos said. That was, until Memorial Day morning. Bradley's mother noticed the bike was missing from their front porch."My bike and my helmet got stolen," Bradley said. The family's security camera captured a man walking away with Bradley's bike. The video shows the young man with arm tattoos wearing a hat and backpack. He looks to be wearing glasses and a distinctive white watch."It kind of sucks because I have to get rides to school now when usually, I'd ride my bike and it's way quicker," Bradley said. The bike theft is the second in as many weeks for the Ramos family. Last Monday, thieves made off with at least ,500 worth of tools from Ramos' work truck. "Since that's been happening, we've been bringing the bike in, and we didn't do it just that one night, and it was gone," Ramos said. The BMX bike has thin red wheels with a racing number plate in the front handlebars. It's not a common model, so the Ramos family is asking people to keep an eye out, and alert authorities if they spot it. To the man who made off with the Ramos' family heirloom, Bradley and his father have a stern message. "Give it back, and never come back to this neighborhood again," Bradley said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tourists and locals alike can enjoy one of San Diego's most famous landmarks Saturday for free in honor of National Public Lands Day.The National Park Service is offering free entry at Cabrillo National Monument, and other U.S. landmarks, as part of its "fee-free" days throughout the year. The last free admission day of the year is Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.Not only that, but Saturday also marks the day when Cabrillo first sailed into San Diego Bay in 1542.RELATED: Six great San Diego spots where you can unwindOn Saturday, guests can also learn about how 16th century explorers navigated with such accurate results, or go inside the Fort Rosecrans bunkers at the site that date back to World War II. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- UC San Diego has some of the best graduate programs and schools in the U.S., according to a new report by U.S. News and World Report. Engineering, medicine and management all took top spots on the list. According to the report, UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering was ranked 11th overall in the U.S. and 6th in the nation among public engineering schools. The school’s bioengineering program placed 5th in the nation. RELATED: State offers money to help boost college savings accountsThe UC San Diego School of Medicine is also among top programs in the U.S., placing 21st in the country for research-intensive programs.The Rady School of Management’s part-time MBA program rose 21 spots to 35th on the list this year. It also placed 22nd among public universities. “Graduate programs at UC San Diego help transform our diverse global society through education, innovation and public service,” said UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “We offer students an education that enriches and inspires them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wednesday, San Diegans who live in their cars rallied in Ocean Beach to press the city to allow living in vehicles, as residents in various neighborhoods pressure the city to ban the policy once again.Earlier this year, San Diego City Council members repealed its vehicle habitation ordinance after a federal judge found it unconstitutional which halted all enforcement.Then in March, Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced an effort to bring a ban back. The ordinance would prohibit residents from sleeping in their cars from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. within 500 feet of a school or house.Residents say reversing the ban leads to broken glass, bottles of urine, drug paraphanelia, and excrement on sidewalks in some areas. But supporters of the policy said Wednesday they don't park in front of homes or litter along roads.The city says they’ve received hundreds and hundreds of complaints about what people living in cars have done to their neighborhoods. Currently the city is expanding a safe parking program that would allow people to park overnight at monitored sites. 1085

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When William Hauf looks out his kitchen window, he sees rows of patio furniture that won't fit anywhere else."I just had to leave that stacked up out there," he says. "And I've got boxes of books in my garage right now that are unopened and brand new. Books that I haven't even seen yet."They're leftovers from Hauf's former, more successful life.In March, he sold his estate in Santaluz for million. Hauf had to sell it after losing millions of dollars himself in real estate and travel investments. It's a key number because that's what San Diego Gas and Electric says he still owes them from his Santaluz home. Hauf got that roughly ,000 bill in March - an annual balance correction because the Santaluz home had solar, meaning he didn't have to pay monthly. SDG&E is now threatening to cut the electricity to his new home in Carlsbad if he doesn't pay the balance. "It's a nightmare, and I have no power to be able to confront this," Hauf said. SDG&E checked Hauf's meter in 2018, after a roughly ,000 annual bill. He said he hoped they would do more at the time. "They didn't investigate, they didn't identify, they didn't do an audit, they didn't do any of that," he said. Then came the ,000 whopper in March. In a statement, SDG&E noted that Hauf's bill worked out to 2 a month for the 7,600 square-foot Santaluz home. The company said it found no issues with the meter and that something in the home was being left on for long periods of time. SDG&E says it has advised Hauf to make sure his pool pump was not left running but Hauf said there's a big problem with that advice."There's no pool in the house," he said. "There's no swimming pool, there's no heater, there's no air conditioning."In other words, Hauf can't pinpoint what caused his annual bill to get to ,000 dollars, and he doesn't think SDG&E can either. A spokesman for SDG&E said the utility isn't always privy to the types of appliances customers have, but reiterated that Hauf's meter was functioning normally during that time. This is the utility's full statement:This solar customer received an annual true-up bill of ,111.46 for twelve months of energy use at his 7,600+ sq. foot home. If you average that out it would be approximately 2 per month. Over the past several years we have spoken with this customer regarding increasing energy usage and other billing related questions. In the spring of 2018, we tested the electric meter and found no issues. In a review of his March 2018 bill, we indicated that something in the household was turned on and left on for periods of time.
