MILWAUKEE — Christopher R. Ward has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the death of 14-year-old Jada Wright. Police responded to the scene late last Wednesday night at their home on the city's northwest side. According to police, Jada has cerebral palsy, and Ward was her personal care worker. Initially, the 18-year-old defendant reported to police that Jada had complications with her feeding earlier that night. He said was not involved in her death, and claimed she had a history of injuring herself.Jada's school physical therapist said she never saw Jada injure herself. She also said Jada was missing from school for a month.Ward was taken into custody after an autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to her abdomen. After further questioning, Ward admitted he had become frustrated with the girl while trying to feed her through her feeding tube. She had maneuvered her tube out of her stomach, frustrating him further. In response, he punched her in the stomach. Ward reconnected her tube and left the room. Upon returning, he saw she had vomited on herself, and did not seek additional care for her or tell first responders about his actions.    1207

MISSION BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - After five years of delays and construction, the Plunge Pool in Mission Beach is scheduled to re-open on June 1."There was a lot of I's to dot and T's to cross with this thing, so we've taken our time," explains Belmont Park General Manager Steve Thomas. "We've invested the capital to make sure that things are where we want them to be. It feels good to be involved in a project like that."In addition to rebuilding the pool, the new Plunge will include a state of the art fitness center, run by Fit Athletic Club. The pool, which opened in 1925, closed in 2014 in dire need of repairs. That process didn't begin until January of 2017 because of issues with the Coastal Commission and other government entities.Throughout construction, people in Mission Beach have been wondering when it will reopen while reminiscing of their time spent in the old Plunge."Our kids, we used to bring them here when they were little," says Sharon Delgadillo. She and her husband Henry walk by the Plunge while they exercise in Mission Beach and have stopped frequently to check on its progress. "It will be awesome that another generation can enjoy this pool too.""It's a piece of our history," says Mission Beach Town Council President Matthew Gardner. He says the management from Belmont Park and the Fit Athletic Club has done an excellent job at providing updates to the council at their monthly meetings. He was thrilled to hear they have an opening date set for June 1st."You better believe I'll be first in line to get a membership for the pool," says Gardner. The Fit is already selling memberships to the Club, which will include pool access. A manager says they're offering a /month special through the end of March.Meanwhile, Belmont Park management says the pool will have its own membership that people can buy if they don't want the full athletic club experience. Those will be sold as monthly or daily passes. Belmont Park is still working out the price points for that.Business owners around Mission Beach and Belmont Park also feel the pool will be a catalyst for more economic growth in the area. Gardner owns a beach rental store next to the pool and says he's already seen an increase of customers who ask about the pool."I built my rental shop where it is because of how much effort they put into the pool," he says.Belmont Park officials say the unique mix of a large pool near the beach will bring in locals and tourists."It's going to be right up there next to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo," says Thomas of how popular he thinks the Plunge will be when it re-opens. "It's a destination that San Diegans will be proud to have in their neighborhood." 2701

Nasim Aghdam, the woman accused of shooting and injuring multiple people at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno before turning the gun on herself, drove up from San Diego, according to KRON.Authorities said they believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. KRON reports that the woman shot her boyfriend and that the others injured were caught in the crossfire. Officials in San Bruno said Tuesday afternoon that three people were wounded and the suspect died of a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound.Police were called to the headquarters just before 1 p.m. and were on scene within two minutes. After arriving on scene, officers found a wounded victim outside the building before encountering a second person, who was likely a suspect, shot from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Officers later found two others wounded in a nearby business, officials said. Helicopter video shows hundreds of people running out of the building with their hands up after shots reportedly rang out.A witness reported hearing as many as 20 shots, according to KRON. ATF and the FBI are said to be investigating the incident. 1140

MYAKKA CITY, Fla. — Twenty-four hours after Mother's Day, a picture Crystal Ingramm took is still hard to digest."I was sad more than anything else," Ingramm said. The mom was driving with her family to a celebratory breakfast. Suddenly, her husband pulled over when he spotted something strange near the forest preserve off Wachula and Taylor roads in Myakka City, Florida."He said, 'I think I saw an alligator on the side of the road,'" Ingramm said. "We thought it was caught in a barbed wire fence. When we got close we realized there were two of them and they were already dead, and their tails had been cut off."Growing up in the small Myakka City community and used to seeing alligators, Ingramm said she immediately knew this was no accident."This was done for only one possible purpose, and they were discarded here," Ingramm said. That's why she said she took the picture and posted it to a community page to let others know about the possible crime. The photo was shared, prompting people like Julie Morris to drive by the preserve."We need to find out who's doing it and make sure that this does not continue to happen," Morris said. That's also why Ingramm said she shared the photo with FWC, the state agency that oversees wildlife concerns."I know alligators are hunted, but there is a lawful and responsible way to do that. You don't obviously just cut their tails and leave all their body parts. This was not an act of hunting, this was something else," Ingramm said.FWC allows alligator hunting in a very limited capacity. The season doesn't start until August. There are also specific rules on how to trap alligators, and cruelty is not an option. It's why officers are taking this seriously. A spokesperson said it's too early to speculate, but if there is a sinister motive, there are repercussions. Ingramm said she just hopes she can get the image out of her mind."To see them mutilated like that is shocking," she said. 2051

More than 1.4 million children under the age of 19 have tested positive for COVID-19 in the U.S. since the pandemic started earlier this year, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association.New data released this week shows that as of December 3, 1,460,905 children have tested positive in this country, representing more than 12% of total reported cases at that time.In August, children under 19 made up 9% of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S.During the last two weeks of November, there was a 23% increase in the number of children who tested positive for the coronavirus, going from a total of 1.183 million in mid-November to 1.460 on December 3.Children still make up a small number of the country’s hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19; ranging from 1-3% of hospitalizations depending on the state, and 0-.23% of all COVID-19 deaths.Last week, the AAP released guidance on returning to youth sports during the pandemic. They encourage children to wear cloth face coverings at all times “for group training, competition, and on the sidelines.” 1099
