The Michigan attorney general's department sent a cease and desist letter to Menards after receiving multiple complaints about price-gouging.Dana Nessel says that her office received 18 complaints from consumers about face masks, bleach and other products being sold at high prices.The AG's office says that investigators have found that Menards allegedly "appears to be exploiting public fear about coronavirus" by raising prices.Nessel says investigators reportedly discovered that last week, the store allegedly doubled the price of cleaning products like bleach and significantly raised the price of face masks while tying their purchase to an in-store rebate.The AG's office began receiving complaints about Menards last week. “Big box stores are not immune to the Michigan Consumer Protection Act or the Governor’s Executive Order,” Nessel said in a press release. “Large corporations must also play by the rules, and my office will work diligently to ensure this state’s consumers are treated fairly and not abused by businesses seeking to unlawfully jack prices up to line their pockets with profits at the expense of the public during this time of great need.”Menards will have 10 days to respond to the cease and desist letter, or the AG's office could potentially take legal action. 1305

The NBA Players Association has agreed to a plan to resume play, with a 22-team tournament acting as the league’s postseason. When the season would resume isn't exactly clear.The NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver are expected to formalize the agreement next week, the league said. Silver previously said that it plans on utilizing ESPN’S Wide World of Sports facility in Orlando, Florida. The MLS is also expected to utilize the facility starting next month for a six-week tournament featuring the entire league. The Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to remove "virtual caucusing" from Iowa's and Nevada's 2020 caucus plans on Friday, giving the states about two weeks to form an alternative proposal.The move leaves Iowa -- which had planned to use only the vote-by-phone method to comply with the Democratic Party's rules to expand voting access in the caucus states -- in a particularly tough position.Nevada's plans included in-person early voting, meaning the committee could find the state's plan in compliance without that element.Last week, DNC Chairman Tom Perez issued a statement with the committee's co-chairs saying the vote-by-phone method didn't meet security standards set to avoid hacking or tampering."While today's decision is not unexpected, we are still disappointed," Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price said in a statement after the vote. The number of cases of COVID-19 in Italy has surged higher again.Some 3,590 more cases of the coronavirus were reported in a 24-hour period, nearly 100 more than the increase as the day before. The additional infections reported Sunday represent the country's biggest day-to-day increase.Italy’s Civil Protection chief Angelo Borrelli announced the latest number of cases, bringing the total number of people with the new coronavirus to 24,747.
