SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting this month, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park will begin requiring ticket reservations for all guests.The two parks have avoided requiring ticket reservations since reopening as an outdoor attraction last June. SeaWorld San Diego and LEGOLAND California have reopened in more limited capacities and have required reserved tickets for guests.Starting Dec. 5, the two zoos will begin to require a reservation for guests. San Diego Zoo Global says the change will be in addition to health screenings and safety measures already implemented throughout the park."Due to COVID-19, in order to keep our community safe during this time and in anticipation of high demand, the San Diego Zoo will implement a reservation system required for entry," the zoo's website reads.Ticket reservations will be required for all visitors ages 3 and older. San Diego Zoo members will need to make a reservation to visit ahead of time as well. More information on how to reserve a ticket or time can be found online.Park capacity for visitors who don't have a reservation may be subject to daily attendance limits, the park says online.Due to pandemic-related restrictions, some park experiences, exhibits, and programs are currently closed. 1254

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Squatters turned a remodeled home in the College Area into a drug den, days after it was listed on as a vacation rental.Two weeks ago, John, who asked us not to use his full name, listed his four-bedroom home on the site VRBO, complete with new mattresses, comforters, and sheets. This past Sunday, a television installer entered the home to put up three TVs."He heard two people run out of the hallway out the back of the house," said John.RELATED: Residents concerned over rash of vandalism in Chula VistaPhotos taken by the installer show part of the scene they left behind: trashed bedrooms and beds littered with electric scooter parts. Also on the beds were crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia. Burn marks adorned three of the beds. John and his girlfriend had spent more than a week making the place perfect. "Just sad. She was crying out the break-in. Upsetting considering how hard we worked and how much money we spent," said John.John isn't sure how the intruders got past the locked doors. But once inside, it's clear they made themselves comfortable, using John's tools and toiletries, and eating food meant for future guests. It appears they had been living there for days.RELATED: Team 10 investigates wild, violent parties at short term vacation rentals"Wondering what went on there is not good to visualize in the future, so definitely feeling violated," said John.It's a violation revisited on Tuesday morning, when the surveillance cameras showed a figure on the patio, and soon after, a person in a hoodie in one of the bedrooms. When police showed up, the burglar had disappeared. John is now planning major upgrades in security.John still plans to list his home on vacation rental sites, but it will cost him. He spent ,000 furnishing the bedrooms, and many of those items will have to be repurchased. 1858

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Scooter riders near the beach are checking their rides a little closer following reports of a group of vandals cutting the brake lines on Byrd scooters in Pacific Beach. "That actually happened to me once in Key West. I had rented scooters and somebody had cut the gas line and we had to walk several miles,” said Jamie Gustine. It was a gas line then, but Jamie says now she’s forced to worry about cut brake lines when she rides. "My kids have ridden them, I have an 8 year old and a 12 year old who was riding the scooter as well, so that's where it scares me the most," she continued. Several people took to social media after the holiday weekend reporting a group of people cutting brake lines on Byrd scooters in Pacific Beach. "It's always something you're thinking about as a parent,” said Michael Cole. Michael Cole, thinking about it as he teaches his 7-year-old daughter to ride. "Somebody is eventually going to get hurt when you're doing something like that, especially down here by the beach, you grab a scooter, you're not thinking that someone cut the break lines."San Diego Police say you should contact the scooter company directly so they can remove the damaged scooters from the streets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego’s tourism industry is preparing for a hit with restrictions and travel advisories in place ahead of the holidays.Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March, research shows the San Diego region has lost .6 billion in tourist money.Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced California, Oregon, and Washington were issuing a travel advisory, asking people to self-quarantine for 14 days if they’ve traveled out of the state or out of the country.The announcement coincides with the CDC urging Americans to stay home and not travel over the holidays.Local hotel owner Bob Rausch said he believes this won’t just hurt his business, but San Diego’s tourism in general. Rausch said tourism is an important part of the city’s economy.“Even if you don’t work directly in the industry, you likely are getting the benefits of tourism,” said Rausch. “I don’t see any good news for the next six months because it’s not our peak season, there are no corporate travelers coming because of all the restrictions. And there aren’t any groups allowed in the state. And leisure travelers are being told to stay home and that was our only business.”It's grim news for business owners who are trying to keep their doors open, and economists are predicting it will take five years for San Diego’s tourism to recover. 1339
