BALTIMORE, Md. – If you just walked into Atwater’s in Baltimore, it would probably seem like a normal café. But if you walked into the kitchen, you would meet Tayvon Brown. He’s the star of the show.“I’ve never met anyone that like has been so positive, constantly, no matter what,” said Morgan Johnson, who is Brown's co-worker.“One of those people that just lifts your spirits and makes you happy to be around," said Caitlin Gallagher, the manager at Atwater's.Brown has autism, but he hasn’t let that stop him from doing pretty much anything.“This is my sixth and a half job,” said Brown.He’s passionate about his job, washing dishes and prepping food“I got to keep these dishes nice and clean and sanitized. I got to keep everyone safe,” said Brown.And his artwork, which he gives to his coworkers.“Our office is decorated with all of Tayvon’s artwork, we have Tayvon’s artwork at the big kitchen, where we bake everything and we all get to take Tayvon’s art home and make our spaces more beautiful,” said Gallagher.He connects his fellow employees at Atwater’s. Gallagher says he’s the secret ingredient.“I don’t know what to compare it to except like the gluten of the staff that Tayvon is. He brings everyone together,” Gallagher said.Brown is just one person out of the 19% of Americans who have a disability who were employed in 2019, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.For comparison, 66% of people without disabilities held jobs last year.People with disabilities are also more than twice as likely to work only part-time.It’s not easy for those with disabilities to find work, no matter how much they may want to.It will take more businesses, like Atwater’s, having an open mind about hiring people like Brown.“We’ve worked with lots of folks with intellectual differences with physical differences, with different cultural backgrounds, different languages spoken, I do feel proud, I also feel like of course and maybe some impatience that this is a special case and it’s not a wider practice,” said Gallagher.While they can’t solve the issue of underemployment of people with intellectual disabilities, everyone at Atwater’s can enjoy their time with Brown, and every time he makes them smile.“It makes me feel like that I have a friend at work that can be nice to me, someone who can help me through my tough days,” said Johnson.“Tayvon can make any of bad days turnaround. He is just one of those people who lifts your spirits and makes you happy to be around,” said Gallagher. 2514

BARTOW, Fla. — A Walt Disney World bus driver was arrested after deputies say he tried to lure a 15-year-old girl for sex.Kevin Van Orman, 35, was arrested March 25 by undercover detectives when he arrived at a home in Bartow, where he planned to meet up with the teenage girl for sexual activities.According to the Polk County, Florida Sheriff's Office, Van Orman used the app "Whisper" to respond to a post that had been placed by an undercover detective pretending to be a 15-year-old girl. 506

BARTOW, Fla. — Police say two middle school girls, who worship Satan, armed themselves with knives in a foiled plot to violently kill classmates and drink their blood at school on Tuesday.The 6th and 7th-grade girls attend Bartow Middle Schol in Bartow, Florida, police say. At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Bartow Police School Resource Officer assigned to the school was summoned to the principal's office in reference to an armed juvenile complaint.The investigation revealed that the students armed themselves with knives, and planned on attacking fellow students during the school day."Fortunately, they were intercepted by school staff hiding in a bathroom during class time prior to carrying out their plans," Bartow Police said in a press release.According to the Bartow Police Department, a student warned a teacher on Monday about one of the girl’s mentioning that “something bad” would happen in building 500 of the middle school. The superintendent said extra officers were at the school on Tuesday as a result of this warning. After one of the girl’s mother received a robo-call alerting her that her child was not in second period, she called the school to inform teachers that the child should be there.Bartow Middle School staff immediately began to search the campus. They found the two girls in a bathroom. The girls were holding a goblet which an administrator suspected was being used to drink alcohol.Once in the principal’s office, the girls were told to empty their pockets, which revealed a knife and knife sharpener. After that, their bags were searched, and several weapons including a pizza cutter and butcher knife were found on the girls. The two admitted to planning to kill students as they entered the bathroom.“They noted that they wanted to kill at least 15 people and were waiting in the bathroom to find smaller kids that they could overpower to be their victims,” Bartow Police Chief Joe Hall said. “I believe that these two small children. I’m going to call them small children, they are only 11 and 12, seriously sat down and plotted to do bodily harm to another student at school.”The police chief said that over the weekend, the two girls plotted and planned their attempt to kill fellow students at the middle school. The investigation also revealed messages between the two, detailing the plans for their attack. The last message sent between the girls stated, "Today is health lessens thank Satan we're doing this in a bit," according to an arrest report.When asked about motivation, the girls reportedly told police that they were Satan worshipers. According to police, the girls planned to drink their victims’ blood out of the goblet they were found with. They also discussed eating their victims' flesh and leaving body parts at the school's entrance before killing themselves."Killing all of these students was in hopes it would make them worse sinners ensuring that after they committed suicide ... (they) would go to hell so they could be with Satan," the arrest affidavit reads.Both juveniles were arrested and removed from the campus, their names are not being released because they are both minors. BARTOW, Fla. — The grave of a U.S. veteran buried 19 years ago in Bartow, Florida was dug up, according to Bartow Police. His clothes were taken right off his body and found on the ground near the casket. Family members said they can’t understand who would do this. The grave belongs to 75-year-old Willie Graham, who was laid to rest in 1999 after he spent his entire life giving to others. He served in the Army during World War II and was a math teacher in Polk County for years. Graham is well known in the Bartow community, and his grave site is next to his mother and father and several other relatives."To take his funeral garb, his clothing off of him and just have it thrown on the ground, I just can't wrap my head around it,” said Cheryl Brown, Willie Graham’s niece. Her family came to the site Sunday to lay flowers down on her mother's grave when they noticed a blue tarp on top of Graham's grave site. According to police, it had been discovered by a city parks and recreation employee on May 10. "It had to take two or three people several hours to get this done. It had to be done at night where no one can see it,” said family member Otto Brown.  Family members are confused why police couldn’t find any of them to notify, but police said they don’t have records because it’s not city property.The report said police attempted to get information from the funeral home that did the burial 19 years ago, but said they also don’t own the property. Scripps station WFTS in Tampa reached out to Coney Funeral Home, and are waiting to hear back.Police said they are also trying to find out who did this. Brown said they don't bury their family members with valuables."That's a very evil human being that did this and the world could do without them,” Otto Brown said. Willie’s wife, who lives in Miami, can’t make it to the gravesite because she just had hip surgery, but said she is also sick to her stomach over this. "Right now what's important is for us to put my uncle back at rest,” Cheryl Brown said.The family is in contact with police at this point.
