Many districts across the country are looking ahead to this fall and trying to make plans about how students could, or should, return to the classroom. A nationwide pediatric group is urging local leaders, parents and education systems to collaborate and create policies that allow for as much in-person learning this fall as possible.The American Academy of Pediatrics released guidance on their website based on in-person attendance at schools being not only fundamental to children’s mental, social and physical development, but also playing “a critical role in addressing racial and social inequality … it is critical to reflect on the differential impact SARS-CoV-2 and the associated school closures have had on different races, ethnic and vulnerable populations.”The recommendations include masks, physical distancing, and outdoor play, with more specifics. Such as, the AAP recommends placing desks 3-to-6 feet apart as long as it allows children to attend school; the 3-foot distance can be used when face coverings are also being worn.Middle and high schools should avoid groupings of students inside doing activities involving exhalation, i.e. singing, exercising, etc. according to the recommendations. The AAP also encourages limiting locker use and moving from room-to-room for classes.The guidance extends to school faculty and staff, with the AAP urging districts to make sure adults in schools get the support they need to set a good example and stay healthy.“In the same way that students are going to need support to effectively return to school and to be prepared to be ready to process the information they are being taught, teachers cannot be expected to be successful at teaching children without having their mental health needs supported.The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last updated their guidance to schools and care facilities in April and it is focused on quickly stopping an outbreak, cleaning facilities and maintaining continuity in education and meal accessibility.AAP acknowledges any school policy this fall should be flexible and nimble, able to respond to new information about the coronavirus and specific needs in each school, district and region.“Although schools should be prepared to be agile to meet evolving needs and respond to increasing knowledge related to the pandemic and may need to institute partial or complete closures when the public health need requires, they should recognize that staff, students, and families will benefit from sufficient time to understand and adjust to changes in routine and practices.” 2591

The patent also notably does not specifically mention iPhones, which could be a sign the technology could be used for other devices, such as Apple Watches, MacBooks and iPads.Besides driver’s licenses and passports, Apple mentions that the technology could also be used to store library cards, tickets and university IDs.While the technology could draw a lot of questions, the patent process generally takes years to complete, meaning it’s not expected to be a feature coming to iPhones in the near future. 1018

Bridget Hallahan wrote the email to fellow officers which said, in part, "I know it is hard to keep our thoughts and opinions to ourselves sometimes, especially when we, as a whole or as an individual, become the target of people in the public who criticize what we do without even knowing the facts."These ANTIFA and BLM people, especially the ones who just jumped on the bandwagon 'yesterday' because they became 'woke' (insert eye roll here), do not deserve a second glance or thought from us."The email goes on to say, "Our little pinky toenails have more character, morals, and ethics than these punks have in their entire body. Do not stoop to their level. Do not respond to them. If we do, we only validate what they did. Don't make them important, because they are not. Michael Cohen has asked a US judge for no prison time, citing, as he reveals in a new court filing, more details about his conversations with then-candidate Donald Trump about plans for a Trump Tower in Moscow.Cohen's attorneys argued that his cooperation with multiple investigations, including the special counsel's Russia probe, and the impact and suffering on Cohen and his family merits avoiding jail. But the filing late Friday night goes even further in tying the President to Cohen's actions.The new filing suggests in the clearest language yet the extent to which Cohen kept Trump informed of his efforts to move the project to build a Trump Tower in Moscow forward well into June 2016, including consideration of a trip to Moscow that summer, while Trump was moving closer to becoming the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party."In fact, Michael had a lengthy substantive conversation with the personal assistant to a Kremlin official following his outreach in January 2016, engaged in additional communications concerning the project as late as June 2016, and kept Client-1 apprised of these communications," the lawyers wrote. Trump is referred to as "Client-1" throughout the filing.On Friday morning, Trump defended his business dealings in a tweet, saying his dealings during the campaign were "very legal and very cool."Cohen pleaded guilty on Thursday to lying to Congress about plans to develop Trump Tower in Moscow when he told lawmakers they had ended in January 2016 and the extent of his conversations with the president, but he did not provide a lot of detail about those discussions in court.The details were part of a sentencing memo filed with the federal court in Manhattan, where Cohen will be sentenced on December 12 in two separate criminal cases. In addition to admitting he lied to Congress, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges brought on by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York in August, including tax fraud, making false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations relating to hush-money payments made to women alleging affairs with Trump. As part of his plea deal with the US attorney's office, Cohen faces 46 to 62 months in prison.Cohen's lawyers Guy Petrillo and Amy Lester asked for the cases to be consolidated so Cohen could be sentenced for all of his crimes at once. Iota struck Monday evening as a Category 4 hurricane, hitting nearly the same location as Hurricane Eta two weeks earlier. By early Wednesday, Iota had dissipated over El Salvador. But the storm’s torrential rains remain a threat.Iota came ashore along almost exactly the same stretch of Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast that was devastated by an equally powerful Hurricane Eta just 13 days earlier.Iota had intensified into an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm during the day Monday, but the U.S. National Hurricane Center says it weakened slightly as it neared the coast late Monday and made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (250 kph).Eta’s torrential rains saturated the soil in the region, meaning Iota's rains have nowhere to go and could cause deadly landslides. 1125
