Cory Gardner (R, Colorado) said Friday he’d received assurances from President Trump this week that Colorado’s legal marijuana industries won’t be affected by Justice Department rule changes implemented earlier this year, and said the president backs a congressional fix.“Late Wednesday, I received a commitment from the President that the Department of Justice’s recission of the Cole memo will not impact Colorado’s legal marijuana industry,” Gardner said in a statement to Scripps station KMGH in Denver. “Furthermore, President Trump has assured me that he will support a federalism-based legislative solution to fix this states’ rights issue once and for all.”Gardner said that he’d decided to lift the remaining holds on Justice Department nominees that have been in place since January, when Sessions decided to rescind the 2013 Cole memo, which generally protected states with legal marijuana programs from extraneous federal law enforcement.He dropped some of the holds in February “as an act of good faith,” he said at the time, after discussions with the deputy U.S. attorney general. Jared Polis, D-Colo., had tried to get an amendment into the omnibus spending bill Congress passed in late March that would have protected recreational pot programs. The provision would have prohibited the Justice Department from spending money to crack down on recreational marijuana in states where it is legal, but it was nixed. But the omnibus bill did include similar protections for states with medical marijuana programs.Gardner and Polis, as well as Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Ed Perlmutter, expressed disappointment that the protections weren’t included in the spending bill, but said they would continue to work toward solutions.Gardner said Friday that those discussions were active and ongoing.“My colleagues and I are continuing to work diligently on a bipartisan legislative solution that can pass Congress and head to the President’s desk to deliver on his campaign position,” Gardner said in a statement.Trump said during his 2016 campaign run that he would leave marijuana rules up to the states, so when Sessions made his January decision, Colorado politicians were incensed.On Friday, White House legislative affairs director Marc Short told The Washington Post that Trump “does respect Colorado’s right to decide for themselves how to best approach this issue.”But he also said the White House was “reluctant to reward that sort of behavior,” referring to Gardner’s holds that had affected around 20 nominees. 3125

DENVER — In the wake of the Black Lives Matter Movement and calls to end systemic racism, many have called on white people to call out discrimination and harassment. A Denver woman says she did just that when she recorded a white woman following and questioning a Black man in a neighborhood near Cranmer Park.Beth, who did not want to be identified by her last name, said she recorded the interaction on Sunday evening and shared it on social media. The video has been viewed thousands of times.The video shows a white woman trailing a Black man walking in a Denver-area neighborhood and asking him questions about a picture. The man asked the woman why she was interrogating him, and the woman later loses her temper."You f**khead, get out of here," the woman said.At one point, Beth interjected and told the woman to leave the man alone."He's not bothering you," she said.Beth said the woman was harassing the man, which is why she recorded the encounter."I just want people to know that it's happening," Beth said. "I don't want people to have an excuse for ignorance anymore. Racism is still real, it's still everywhere, and I'm a white person with a camera, so when I see it, I have to call it out."The woman in the video did not wish to give an interview on camera or be identified, but she told Scripps station KMGH in Denver that she saw the man take several pictures of her home, and was worried they could be used for a crime. When asked if she would have reacted differently if a white person were taking photos, the woman said race didn't play a role in her questioning. She said she just wanted to know why the man took pictures of her home.During the confrontation, the man began to walk away, but the woman continued to follow him. He finally told the woman that he did not want to talk with her and said, "Have a nice day."Neighborhood resident Matt Tedeschi has lived in the area most of his life and walks his dog in the area."(I'm) shocked that not everyone is as accepting as they should be, just for someone walking down the street and question them when they have no right to question them like that," Tedeschi said.The woman in the video claims she had every right to question why the man took pictures of her home. Beth argued that it's a beautiful neighborhood and that photos are common."He is in a public space, he took a picture; people do that all the time," Beth said. "It's a movement right now where we need to prove that Black people are harassed for no good reason. It's a time where we need to have evidence to back up what we are saying."Beth said she spoke with the man after the encounter, and he asked her if he was close to Trader Joe's. She asked if he was OK.She said he told her, "I'm OK. DENVER - A Colorado gun store owner who appeared on the reality TV show 'American Guns' on Discovery Channel has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for tax fraud and dealing without a license.Richard Wyatt, 54, was sentenced to 78 months on Thursday.Wyatt operated the Gunsmoke gun shop in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He was convicted last year on 10 counts, including not reporting income to the IRS.According to court records, Wyatt surrendered his federal firearms license in 2012 for unspecified violations but continued to sell guns from his store by working with another gun shop that had a license. Prosecutors said Wyatt entered sales from his store into the computer system as "miscellaneous" instead of gun sales and had customers go to the other store to fill out the background check paperwork.The court found that a total of 490 guns were involved in Wyatt's illegal operation, all of which the court ordered forfeited. 938

But this year, the command is making sure the coronavirus won’t sideline the fabled Santa Claus from delivering gifts around the world. This is the 65th year for the U.S.-Canadian operation that has tracked the jolly old man since a child mistakenly called the base asking to speak to Santa. Air Force Gen. Glen D. VanHerck says he's confident that Santa Claus knows how to stay safe. He says even a pandemic won't disrupt Santa’s schedule.
