According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the rescue is taking place on the 12000 block of Torrey Pines Park Road. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Controversial Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel made an unexpected appearance in San Diego Thursday.Manziel threw passes during the "Pro Day" at the University of San Diego, where NFL scouts gathered to evaluate some Toreros seniors. They also took notes on the former Texas A&M star.Manziel, who currently lives in the L.A. area, has been working with San Diego-based quarterback guru George Whitfield, Jr. on his game.He flamed out after just two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.Manziel’s personal troubles include an arrest for disorderly conduct, an altercation with his girlfriend, and time in rehab for an unspecified issue. He admitted to depression and self-medicating with alcohol during his time in the NFL.Manziel just celebrated his first wedding anniversary and told 10News he’s too busy to get into trouble.He said he’s hoping to sign with a pro team and resume his career. 923

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans presented five renderings of possible suicide barriers for the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.More than 400 people have killed themselves by jumping from the bridge since it was opened in 1969, making it the second deadliest suicide bridge in the nation behind San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.The possible suicide barriers include a large net underneath the bridge similar to the one to be put on the Golden Gate Bridge, three types of fencing, or 18-inch spikes on top of the existing barriers.Caltrans said one design will be chosen in Spring 2018.They said it will take several years to build the barrier because they need to have environmental impact studies done and get funding for it.  752

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Behind the research board project that placed top 300 in the national broadcom master's STEM competition, is Scripps Ranch High's freshman, Agastya Sridharan. "It started when I was reading a Wall Street report saying google search results were bias and it was shocking to me."Agastya created a Google platform mock-up that surveyed people's perceptions on political candidates, based on search engine results. "I had a few political search results which were arranged in 5 different orders, one favoring a liberal, one favoring a conservative. Once I got the results back, I was shocked how much it changed people's perspectives by 30%."And it wasn't just his creativeness that got the judge's attention. He was also asked to answer two questions, one to offer a solution to the global wildfire issue. "You'd have a fleet of drones that'd detect fires with image processions and AI, that was my idea for solving the wildfires." His sharp responses then placed him in the top 30. "I just freaked out, it was incredible."Next month, Agastya will be competing in the final round as the contest goes virtual for the first time amid COVID-19. He said the most exciting takeaway so far, has been seeing others his age come up with real solutions that could change the world. "They've really tried to solve some of the problems pressing the world today. Like how to approach the problems our world face because we're going to be the ones inhibiting it, right?" 1482

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – County leaders are continuing to urge San Diegans that 2020 is not the year to skip the flu shot as we head into colder months amid a nearly year-long pandemic.On Wednesday, the fourth of six flu vaccine clinics was held by San Diego County’s Health and Human Services in Logan Heights. All hands were on deck with nurses from across the county, as more people are heading to the free clinics to get their flu shot this season."This is a year to be vigilant of protecting yourself from influenza and getting a vaccine, so we don't run into a situation where people are not only getting COVID, but getting influenza, and clogging our medical response system," said Thomas Zurek, public health nurse manager with the county.Zurek said while we can't control the spread of COVID-19 with a vaccine, we can when it comes to the spread of influenza, which hits hard during cold months when more people are indoors.Zurek added he hopes the free clinics will help keep people out of hospitals this season so staff can focus patients affected by COVID-19."Our numbers have been above what we're normally than seeing this time of year, which is great," Zurek said.The county will hold two more vaccine clinics Thursday and next Tuesday:Thursday, Oct. 29, at East Public Health Center, 367 N.
