GOTEBORG, Sweden, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed a deal worth 1.8 billion U.S. dollars with Ford Motor Co. here Sunday to acquire the U.S. auto giant's Volvo car unit.Under the definitive stock purchase deal, Geely will own 100 percent of Volvo Cars and its related assets.The agreement was inked by Li Shufu, founder and chairman of Geely, and Lewis Booth, chief financial officer of Ford, at a ceremony at the headquarters of Volvo in Goteborg, the second largest city of Sweden. Geely Chairman Li Shufu attends a press conference after the signing ceremony in Goteborg of Sweden, March 28, 2010. BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China will introduce resource tax at a "proper" time to promote energy saving and environmental protection, the Ministry of Finance said Tuesday in a statement on its Website.The statement provide little details about the move which is part of the ministry's tasks for 2010 listed in the lengthy statement.The government would stick to the proactive fiscal policy this year, the statement said, adding the ministry would expand investment in agriculture, education, science, medical care, social security, affordable housing, energy conservation and emission reduction.The ministry said it would improve the property tax system, without details. It would also step up efforts to revamp income distribution, aiming at narrowing the yawning wealth gap.

ZHENGZHOU, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Indian President Pratibha Patil on Saturday visited an ancient Buddhist temple in central China that is believed to be the starting point for Buddhism's spread from India into China.Patil toured the White Horse Temple in Luoyang City, Henan Province, accompanied by the temple's abbot Shi Yinle, and inaugurated an Indian-style Buddhist hall as a gift to China.A Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) emperor ordered the construction of the temple in honor of two Indian monks and horses that carried Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues from India to the then capital Luoyang in 67 AD.During Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India in 2005, the two countries agreed to build the Indian-style hall in the temple to commemorate the long history of bilateral ties.The 3,450-sq-m hall was funded by the Indian government and constructed by the Chinese side, the first of its kind outside of India.Wang Zhizhen, vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, also attended the inauguration ceremony.Following the visit, Patil left Henan for the ongoing World Expo in Shanghai, the last leg of her week-long state visit to China.During her visit, the two sides agreed to boost cultural exchange and people-to-people contact.

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- As the curtain is about to rise on the upcoming second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED), to be held in Beijing on May 24-25, the world's attention will again focus on the Chinese capital.Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai said Thursday that in order to achieve positive results from the dialogue, China will strengthen communications, enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with the United States.Analysts say this round of talks is of special significance because it signals a new consensus reached by the two sides after overcoming certain obstacles in their relationship.MOVING TOWARDS THE SAME DIRECTIONThe history of Sino-U.S. relations is full of twists and turns, so every step forward and every turn for the better is precious.The second S&ED will be another positive turn for both nations after they overcame a number of complicated problems in their relations.After Barack Obama took over the White House last year, Sino-U.S. relations got off to a good start.
