(AP) — California's attorney general is accusing a car dealership of false advertising and lying on loan documents to boost the company's profits at the expense of its mostly low-income customers.Attorney General Xavier Becerra sued Paul Blanco's Good Car Company on Monday.Becerra said the company's prolific TV and radio ads would boast about 2% interest rates and approving people for loans over the phone. But Becerra said those were lies designed to lure customers to the dealership. Once people came, Becerra said the company would then lie about their incomes and the value of the vehicles to convince lenders to approve the loans.Representatives from the dealership did not respond to a request for comment. (AP) — The Trump administration cancelled nearly billion in federal money for California's high-speed rail project Thursday, further throwing into question the future of the ambitious plan to connect Los Angeles and San Francisco.The Federal Railroad Administration's announcement it would not give California the money came several months after sniping between President Donald Trump and Gov. Gavin Newsom over the project. The administration will still try to force California to return another .5 billion that has already been spent.Trump had seized on Newsom's remarks in February that the project as planned would cost too much and take too long. Newsom has shifted the project's immediate focus to a 171-mile line in the state's Central Valley, but he said he's still committed to building the full line.Still, federal officials said California has repeatedly failed to make "reasonable progress" and "abandoned its original vision."Newsom declared the action "illegal and a direct assault on California" and said the state would go to court to keep the money."This is California's money, appropriated by Congress, and we will vigorously defend it in court," he said in an emailed statement.Voters first approved about billion in bond funds for the project in 2008. It has faced repeated cost overruns and delays since. (AP) — Lawmakers can avoid the long lines plaguing California's Department of Motor Vehicles offices by visiting an office near the Capitol not open to the public, a decades-old practice under fresh fire as wait times surge.The office provides services for current and retired lawmakers, their staff and some other state employees, The Sacramento Bee reported Thursday. DMV spokesman Artemio Armenta said its primary purpose is to handle constituent requests that arrive on lawmakers' desks and that the two-member staff handles 10,000 requests per year.But one lawmaker said it shouldn't provide extra perks for the Capitol community as regular Californians are forced to wait up to hours in line for services at their local office.RELATED: Shorter lines?
