BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev held talks in Beijing Thursday afternoon.     The heads of states agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in all fields and join hands to tackle the challenge of international financial crisis. After the talks, Hu and Nazarbayev signed a joint declaration and witnessed the signing of 10 agreements on cooperation in the fields of transport, education, agriculture and telecommunications. The two countries have maintained frequent high-level contacts, political mutual trust, expansion of practical cooperation and good collaboration within the multilateral frameworks. Hu expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for supporting China on such major issues as Taiwan, Tibet and the holding of Beijing Olympics and Paralympics.     Nazarbayev said Kazakhstan values the development of friendly and cooperative relations with China. He said China has raised its status in the international community by successfully holding the Olympic Games and launching the Shenzhou-7 spacecraft.     He said the effective measures taken by the Chinese government to cope with the global financial crisis have benefited not only the Chinese economy, but also the world economic growth.     Hu said the Chinese government always gives priority to developing the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan. Hu suggested that the two countries should work on four areas.     Firstly, Hu said the two countries should continue to enhance high-level contact, improve cooperative mechanism and deepen political links. The leaders of the two countries should maintain close contact. The governments of the two countries should give full play to the role of China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee to increase communication and coordination. The parliaments and political parties of the two countries should carry out exchanges in various forms on the experience of governing their respective countries.     Secondly, the two countries should utilize the complementarity of their economies to deepen cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, energy, resources and finance to achieve common development. The two sides should further optimize trade structure, expand the scale of bilateral trade, work together to build major energy and resources projects and non-resources projects, and accelerate infrastructure construction at border areas.     Thirdly, the two countries should promote cultural exchanges and cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan in culture, education, health, tourism and sports. He said the two countries should encourage non-governmental organizations, media and youth organizations to expand contact and enhance friendship.     Fourthly, the two countries should deepen security cooperation and join hands to tackle various challenges. He said China will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Kazakhstan within such multilateral frameworks as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. He said the two countries should join effort to strike trans-border organized crimes and the evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism so as to safeguard peace, stability and security of the two countries and the whole region.     Nazarbayev fully agreed with Hu's suggestion, saying under the current situation, Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen its strategic partnership with China. He expressed the willingness to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, transport, agriculture, finance and telecommunications.     He said the two countries should continue to step up cooperation in multilateral arena, especially within the frameworks of the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.     He said the two countries will work together to fight against the three evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world over.     Nazarbayev reiterated that Kazakhstan supports China's stance on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet. It supports China to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.     Before the talks, President Hu hold a welcome ceremony for President Nazarbayev at the Great Hall of the People.

BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with his visiting Uruguayan counterpart Tabare Vazquez here Monday. They agreed to promote bilateral relations to a higher level. He highlighted the rapid growth of bilateral relations since the two forged diplomatic relationship 21 years ago.     China has become the third biggest trading partner of Uruguay and the two sides have enjoyed close coordination and cooperation in regional and international issues, Hu said.     Vazquez said the two countries have made important progress in cooperation in various fields since they established diplomatic relations.     The two sides share broad consensus on many major issues. Both sides support peaceful resolution to international disputes and oppose interference of other country's internal affairs, Vazquez said.     The growth of bilateral relations will serve the interests of both nations and their peoples, Vazquez added.     Hu suggested the two sides strengthen political relations and expand dialogues at various levels. He also called for expanded cooperation in investment, trade and technology for their mutual benefits.     He named agriculture, fishery, product quality inspection, software and engineering technology consultation as fields where cooperation should be strengthened.     "The Chinese government encourages its companies to start businesses and invest in Uruguay and is willing to boost bilateral cooperation in energy, information technology industry, biological technology and agricultural technology", Hu said.     He also proposed the two nations boost cultural and people-to-people exchanges by expanding cooperation in culture, education, sports, media, and tourism sectors.     "China will make joint efforts with developing countries, including Uruguay, to address global challenges such as the current international financial crisis in an aim to maintain and promote peace, stability and development", the Chinese president said.     He added that China supports the integration process of the Common Market of the South and is willing to develop friendly and cooperative ties with its member states.     The two heads of the state also consulted on the international financial crisis.     Hu said China is willing to strengthen cooperation with developing countries including Uruguay to jointly face up to various global challenges such as the financial crisis, and safeguard and promote peace, stability and development across the world.     He said China attaches high importance to the G20 Summit scheduled for April 2 in London and is committed to intensifying dialogue and communication with the participating parties to ensure the summit will produce positive outcomes.     Vazquez stressed the necessity for the establishment of a new international financial order and expressed his hope the summit will lead to positive results that will help alleviate the impact of the financial crisis on developing countries.     After the talks, the two presidents witnessed a signing of a number of bilateral agreements.     At the invitation of Hu, Vazquez arrived in Beijing Saturday morning for a six-day state visit.     Vazquez will leave Beijing for a visit to Shanghai on March 24.     This is President Vazquez's first visit to China since he took office in 2005.

ISTANBUL, Turkey, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The World Water Council (WWC) is ready for China's membership, WWC President Loic Fauchon said here Saturday evening.     During his meeting with Chinese Minister of Water Resources Chen Lei on the sideline of the 5th World Water Forum, Fauchon said he welcomes China to "the WWC family," and "we are ready to sign the agreement" which just need a few days to finalize the details of the pact.     "We need your experience and your tradition, It will be a nice relation," he added.     Chen said China is willing to participate WWC activities and China will shoulder the obligation and responsibility when it becomes a member.     Chen invited the president to visit Beijing. Fauchon said he is glad to visit the Chinese capital in May or June, when the both sides are expected to ink the pact.     WWC, created by a number of key water institutions in 1996, unites over 300 member organizations from more than 60 countries. It is an international multi-stakeholder platform "to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels."

  

JEJU, ROK, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), unveiled a new Confucius Institute here Saturday soon after his arrival.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, cut the ribbon for the Republic of Korea's 13th Confucius Institute, the Chinese-teaching institution overseas.     The institute was set up in Cheju Halla College, the largest private institute of high learning in Jeju Special-Governing Province of the Republic of Korea (ROK).     When addressing the opening ceremony, Li said that China and ROK were inter-linked geographically and culturally. "The cultural exchanges boast profound historic foundation and favorable realistic environment," he said. "I think the new Confucius Institute can surely add a new human landmark to the beautiful natural vista in Jeju," he said.     Li also donated a batch of Chinese language teaching textbooks, books on Chinese history and culture and some audio-video materials to the institute.     The world's first Confucius Institute was launched in Seoul, capital of the ROK, in December 2004. By March 2009, some 256 Confucius Institutes and 58 Confucius Classrooms were set up in 81countries and regions worldwide.     Li arrived in Jeju earlier Saturday. ROK is the last leg of Li's four-nation tour which has already taken him to Australia, Myanmar and Japan.
