(KGTV) - Border Patrol officials in San Diego say they are preparing for the possibility of interactions with 7,000 immigrants seeking asylum at the U.S-Mexico border in San Ysidro.Mexico has already offered asylum to the migrant caravan, officials say. If the group reaches Tijuana, they will be denied entry into the United States.1,300 U.S. military troops are at San Ysidro to support the border mission, but not in a law enforcement role, according to military officials.The Army, Marines, and military police will fill in gaps along the border and erect barriers, creating an infrastructure to make it harder to cross illegally.Border protection officials also told 10News there is no place to put the migrants. During a tour of the San Ysidro Port of Entry Friday, journalists were allowed to tour the holding area but forbidden to take photographs. ICE detention facilities are already at capacity, officials say, and any more additions would push the problem to the breaking point.Anyone who enters the U.S. illegally will be arrested, Border Patrol officials say."We are not going to allow large groups of aliens to come to this county and to enter this country unaddressed,” said Rodney Scott, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.Scott added that if the caravan does visit the U.S., nothing is off the table in terms of stopping them, including a full border shutdown.The military says it views its mission at the border as temporary, and says it plans to be gone by December 15. 1516

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a fugitive sex offender from New York spotted in San Marcos. According to the United States Marshals Service, Dale Dulac violated his parole, leaving Niagara Falls, New York on September 20. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest. Authorities say Dulac was recently spotted in San Marcos. U.S. Marshals are working with the San Diego Fugitive Task Force to locate and arrest Dulac. Sears is swinging the ax again. The struggling retailer announced plans to close another 46 Sears and Kmart stores.The company has already closed more than 100 stores this year -- including the last remaining Sears in its hometown of Chicago -- as it attempts to stem losses.Employees at 13 Kmart stores and 33 Sears stores were notified that their locations would close by November.When Sears and Kmart merged in 2005, they had about 3,500 US stores between them. About 900 US stores remain, and more closings are likely."We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed," the company said in a statement.Liquidation sales at some of the stores will start as soon as August 30.Sears has lost .2 billion since 2010, its last profitable year and sales have plunged 60% in that time.The company has been looking at selling assets as a way to raise money. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — The City of San Marcos is taking action after 10News highlighted concerns by residents in a senior community who said their homes were at greater risk of a wildfire because of untrimmed brush near a creekbed.The city has cleared brush every year along Discovery Road near Lakeview Mobile Estates, but with an upcoming road-widening project scheduled for the area, the city initially told residents it would delay brush trimming along the San Marcos Creek until crews begin grading work, according to HOA Vice President Jim Woodard.That work is scheduled to begin in December."To save a few dollars and put us in this kind of risk, we're completely vulnerable," he said. "It's just a ticking timebomb."The brush, which is now taller than six feet in some spots, is just a few feet from the mobile home community's entrance."This is the only way in and out of the park, so if there's a fire on this side of the park, we're trapped," Woodard said.Resident Lee Katola said many of her neighbors are disabled and would have difficulty evacuating during a fire."I'm fearful. I'm fearful," she said.Woodard added, "It's perfect fuel for a fire. One spark coming over from that grass hits that fence, and we're toast."San Marcos Communications Manager Robin Rockey said the city was aware of the concerns."The City of San Marcos Fire Department spoke with residents at Lakeview Mobile Estates and is working to address their concerns and clear brush along Discovery Street," said Rockey. "The fire department is working on setting a time for the next clearing."Late Thursday, Rockey said the city would clear the brush by Wednesday of next week.The 214-acre San Marcos Creek Project will include two new bridges, a park, and will widen Discovery Road to four lanes. SAVANNAH, Tenn. — A Tennessee mother and her boyfriend have been accused of force-feeding batteries to a small child.A grand jury indicted the two adults – 21-year-old Kristina Thompson and 19-year-old Lucas Todd – in the case. They’re accused of forcing a child under the age of 8 to eat several AA and AAA batteries with the intention of causing serious bodily harm. The child also suffered several bruises and fractured bones. He or she is expected to recover.If convicted of aggravated child abuse, the suspects face a minimum prison sentence of 15 years.  583
