SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Valley Fire has forced many East County residents to evacuate, but one homeowner said he and his family have decided to stay in their home and ride the situation out.Leo Prado told ABC 10News, “Where are we going to go? It’s not like we just have luggage and we can go into a hotel. We have animals here.”Prado said picking up and leaving his home in the Deerhorn Valley area, near Jamul, isn’t an easy task, especially with horses and dogs on his property.Prado and his family are staying put, as their area is only under a voluntary evacuation as of Tuesday afternoon.According to Prado, his property has not had power since the Valley Fire started on Saturday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The sailor hit by a spinning helicopter blade earlier this week at MCAS Camp Pendleton has died.MCAS Camp Pendleton said the sailor died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after the spinning tail rotor blade of a UH-01Y Venom Marine helicopter struck him.The helicopter was on deck at MCAS Camp Pendleton when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.RELATED: Sailor critically injured by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp PendletonThe sailor was brought to Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility with critical injuries after the incident.Officials are withholding the sailor's name pending family notification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The body of a 9-year-old boy swept away by a current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday has been found in Mexico.Authorities say the body of Erik Ochoa was found around 10 a.m. Thursday morning at San Antonio Del Mar.Ochoa lived in Tijuana with his stepfather while his sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista.RELATED: Family searches for boy swept away in Rosarito?Ochoa was with two other children walking on the beach in Rosarito when they were swept out to sea.One of the boys was able to make it out of the current and ran to get help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Thursday, 19 new cases of E. Coli were reported among Marine recruits, according to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.Although 19 new cases were reported, the number of recruits still recovering from the illness fell to 86 Thursday. Tuesday, 302 recruits were reportedly undergoing treatment for E. Coli. That number fell again Wednesday as 214 recruits were still undergoing treatment.RELATED: 26 more Marine recruits sickened by E. coli, according to MCRD"The command is continuing to take precautionary measures and care for those who are affected," said Brig. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of people gathered in Balboa Park to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease.The annual “Walk for Alz” is one of the biggest Alzheimer’s awareness events in San Diego. Ken Darling has been participating in the event for the last 10 years.“My mom has passed but, I keep coming back to say thank you to an organization that helps other people going through this disease," Darling said.The Walk for Alz is put on by Alzheimer’s San Diego. The organization offers free resources to caregivers and family members of people in need.“It’s a family disease,” says Eugenia Welch, President of Alzheimer’s San Diego. “It effects so much more than just the person who is diagnosed because the whole family has to adjust their way of life to make sure that person is safe.”About 84,000 people in San Diego County are currently living with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia. That number is up from the 65,000 reported cases last year. Alzheimer’s San Diego says the goal for the event is to raise at least 0,000. All the money goes to resources in San Diego County.  1112
