SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Snoopy’s San Diego Comic-Con pop-up store is celebrating the Peanuts gang’s history with NASA and the Apollo 10 mission. In 1969, Apollo 10 used a lunar module to “snoop around” the moon’s surface in advance of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The crew named the module “Snoopy” and the command module “Charlie Brown”. As Gene Cernan, Apollo 10's Lunar Module Pilot once said, "No one remembers Apollo 10—until you tell them our spacecrafts were named Snoopy and Charlie Brown, and they say 'Oh! I remember!' " To honor the 50th anniversary, Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville created “Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10”, a mockumentary demonstrating the ties between the beloved cartoons and the space agency. The film, starring Ron Howard as himself and Jeff Goldblum as a self-published NASA historian, is available free in the Apple TV app. Astronaut Snoopy merchandise, including skate decks and finger skateboards are available at the pop-up shop at 226 Fifth Ave. Fans can also buy replicas of a Snoopy “All systems go” pennant. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several bubble-like domes will cover Liberty Station early next year, offering locals the chance to dine under the stars.Dinner With a View will offer San Diegans a dining experience inside one of 33 intimate, clear domes in Liberty Station's central promenade from Feb. 6, 2020, to March 8, 2020. Tickets for the dining experience go on sale Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. online.Diners who grab a ticket will enjoy a three-course menu prepared by an acclaimed chef. While San Diego's chef has yet to be announced, Toronto's pop-up was led by Canada "Top Chef" winner René Rodriguez.A blind menu featuring meat, fish, and vegan options will be served to guests. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Chicano Park is already a local icon. But soon, the mural-clad location could be listed within the National Park System.The Chicano Park Preservation Act (H.R. 486), introduced in January by Rep. Juan Vargas of the 51st Congressional District, would require the Department of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of Chicano Park and its murals and evaluate the site's national significance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's new dive coaster has shed its "Mako" moniker and will now nod to another of the park's coolest animals.SeaWorld announced Tuesday its dive coaster will be called "Emperor," a nod to Emperor penguins. The name is "a tribute to the Emperor penguins’ journey from chilly, frosted cliffs to their deep dive into the depths of the ocean," the park says.The ride will still be modeled after SeaWorld's other "Mako" coasters, taking riders more than 150 feet high, before sending them into a 143-foot face-down drop and through loops and turns at up to 60 miles per hour. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday, Dec. 8 will be the tenth year since a tragedy in the heart of University City.Four people died in 2008 when an FA-18 military jet crashed into homes in the San Diego community west of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.Rebecca Cosford was in her home and heard two loud noises. The first was the pilot blowing out the plane’s canopy and ejecting. The second sound was the crash.“One was popping, then a massive explosion that shook the whole house,” Cosford remembers.Cosford and her husband ran outside to see a “large column of smoke”.Teresa Rizzo not only heard it: she felt it. Someone yelled at her to stay back and told her a plane had crashed."I just thought, 'That was an airplane?’ That was an actual airplane that fell out of the sky and exploded around the corner from my house?"Marine pilot Dan Neubauer’s parachute landed a block west of the crash site after he ejected. He had been trying to reach MCAS Miramar on one engine, but his second engine failed. The FA-18 dropped like a stone.The four lives lost on the ground were Dong Yoon’s family."I believe my wife and two babies and my mother-in-law are in heaven with God," Yoon said after the crash.Neighbors had tried to help when disaster struck. Alain Blanc had a cell phone in one hand, 911 on the line. His other hand was holding a hose as firefighters arrived."There are moments we don't have time to be scared, you react! I heard this incredible bang, the earth shook, and I was outside. How I got there, don't ask me," said Blanc.Today, two new homes stand where the other two were destroyed. One thing is the same: the sound of roaring jets."Not that far but when they're close, when it's the same elements as it was that day: overcast, the middle of the day, cool temperatures and a plane flies really close by, my heart still races."Many neighbors told 10News they plan to attend a memorial which will be held Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. at University Village Park. 1982
