EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A rally was held Monday afternoon in El Cajon to not only celebrate the holiday season, but to also call on local leaders to fully reopen businesses and schools.The “All I Want for Christmas is Freedom” rally took place at the El Cajon Centennial Plaza, located on 200 Civic Center Way.The event was organized by the group Re-Open San Diego and was a “free and safe family event to save the spirit of Christmas, enjoy food, shopping, listening to the Mayor of El Cajon [Bill Wells] play live music, and to advocate for fully reopening San Diego businesses and schools.”State Sen. Brian Jones, Rep. Darrell Issa, and Peggy Hall with TheHealthyAmerican.org will be among those speaking at the rally. Many say they believed businesses can reopen safely."Let these people get back to work and be safe, take care of their employees, take care of their customers and open up in a safe manner," Jones said. Monday’s rally comes nearly a week after a San Diego judge ruled two local strip clubs and all county restaurants could remain open despite California’s stay-at-home order for the Southern California region.The judge’s ruling, however, was blocked two days later by an appellate court until the ruling can be heard in court -- forcing restaurants to once again focus on take-out service. 1323

Dozens of children in South Georgia were potentially exposed to COVID-19 at a Christmas celebration last week after it was later discovered that Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus had tested positive for the virus.Long County, Georgia — a county located about an hour west of Savannah — hosted its annual Christmas parade last Thursday which included a tree lighting and a photo opp with Santa. At the time, Santa and Mrs. Claus were not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. However, two days later, both learned they had tested positive for the virus.Both WSAV-TV and WJCL-TV in Savannah both report that as many as 50 children took their photos with Santa last Thursday. It's unclear if either were wearing masks at the time of the photo op.Rob Parker, the Chairman of the Long County Board of Commissioners, says that while the event was not organized by the county, he does not regret that it took place.“While this event was not put on by the City of Ludowici or the Long County Board of Commissioners, it was well attended by our public officials and I believe I speak for the majority of them in saying that we still stand by the decision of the Chamber to move forward with these holiday traditions, and to bring some sense of normalcy to these trying times,” Parker said, according to WSAV.Parker added that Santa and Mrs. Claus would "never knowingly" have participated if they knew they had the virus.“They have both filled these roles for many years, and bringing joy to children during the holidays is one of the most important parts of their lives,” Parker said.The Long County School District has asked that children who may have been exposed to the virus to stay home until after winter break, and has already instituted an option "learn-at-home" option due to the increase in quarantined students. 1810

It was gut-wrenching," said Erik Weichelt, President of the Fletcher Hills Little League."Just devastating for the league," said Weichelt's son Gage, 12, who plays in the league.Discovered on Saturday: a damaged fence, gate shoved open, and a locked batting cage that was broken into. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt.The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt.So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games. In the concession area, there is ,500 worth of food which will likely go unsold."No revenue has come in. We're losing money because fees are still there. The cost of lights and maintenance isn't going away," said Weichelt.Their financial dilemma is now a bigger issue because of the theft.
