As it happens to be one of California's original surf towns."Oceanside still has that vibe to it. I mean this town revolves around surfing," says U.S.A. Surfing CEO Greg Cruse.U.S Olympic surfing coach Brett Simpson says he loves the surfing tradition and atmosphere you find in Oceanside."The culture is very rich. There has been a lot of years where there has been tons of shapers, the magazines, and clothing companies."So it just makes sense the U.S. Olympic Surfing team has chosen Oceanside as a training site for the Olympic games in Japan."Oceanside is a very ideal place because it mimics a lot of what we are trying to do. There are beach breaks, and it has some jetties, as well as a pier. It's very good practice for where ever we go around the globe."And the beaches also resemble the type of waves team U.S.A.will be competing on when they get to Japan next year."For us to be able to utilize something that's similar to the Olympic site, without having to travel to Japan, is going to be very helpful to our team," says Cruse.And this Sunday, Oceanside is calling on all surfers to hit the waves in support of California Surfing Day. Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has pulled out of a job as a correspondent for NBC at the Winter Games in South Korea.News broke earlier Sunday that Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, was being hired to work on TV, digital and social media for NBC for the remainder of the Games in Pyeongchang.NBC tweeted out the news Sunday morning, welcoming the 28-year-old bronze medalist to its team.But Rippon said hours later that although he was "so flattered" by NBC's offer, he decided against the move because it would mean leaving his U.S. teammates and the Olympic Village."It's so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events," he said on NBCSN.NBC's article online about Rippon becoming one of its correspondents now redirects readers to his Olympic profile page.Rippon later suggested he only learned about the network's plans to hire him from social media."I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter HAHA," he tweeted. OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) -- Oceanside City Council decided Wednesday night to postpone a vote regarding a controversial development plan in East Oceanside. The developer hoped to postpone the vote in order to make adjustments to the plan. Residents opposed to the plan hoped Council members cast a 'no' vote to put an end to the plan.The North River Farms Development sits on 177 acres in an area Southwest of Bonsall, known as South Morro Hills. "We're really excited to bring an 'Agrihood' to the City of Oceanside," Ninia Hammond, Project Manager of Integral Communities, said. Her company began crafting this plan five years ago. Their goal is to create a place that will feature a trifecta of community, housing, and farming on traditionally agricultural land.The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce expressed their support of the project in February. They argued that it would bring in millions of dollars, and help the city meets its 2021 Regional Housing Needs Assessment goal.10News met with Jane Marshall, a resident vehemently opposed to the plan."We would rather have a better quality of life, where a developer is willing to work with us in all our infill projects," Marshall said. "We have plenty of room to build instead of taking prime farmland from Oceanside."But the developer said this is the only location for a plan of this kind. "The maker spaces, the creative hub, the exposure to the view of the river," Hammond said. "All of that makes the nature of it, really specific to the location."Marshall disagreed. She said the development would decimate small farms, increase traffic and pollution, and create flooding and fire issues. She said the plan does not include a clear emergency evacuation plan, putting residents at risk. Because of these very issues, Oceanside's Planning Commission turned down the plan for the second time two weeks ago. But Hammond said they are optimistic the city council will postpone the vote and reconsider the issue another time, after they make revisions. "Our goal is to make this the safest and best-planned community we possibly can. Through enhancement like offers, irrigation, setbacks, high fuel mod zones," Hammond said. 2187

ONTARIO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two children were found dead in a home in Ontario, California Tuesday night, according to police. Police say the responded to the 500 block of East Tam O’Shanter Street around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Ontario Police Department said in a series of tweets that officers discovered two children dead in the home. One adult was taken to the hospital. Police say the cause of death is unclear at this time and the investigation is ongoing. According to police, the incident is being investigated as suspicious. Ontario Police are working a suspicious death at a residence in the 500 block of East Tam O Shanter St. One adult has been transported to the hospital for treatment.
