A Twitter account providing updates on protests going on around the city said that the protest was asking for justice for Daniel Prude, a Black man who died March 30 after he was taken off life support, seven days after the encounter with police in Rochester. His death received no public attention until Wednesday, when his family released police body camera video they obtained. Prude was handcuffed, hooded and pinned down by police.Seven officers involved in the incident were suspended Thursday by Rochester Mayor Lovely Ann Warren. The incident caught the attention of State Sen. Brad Hoylman, who represents Manhattan. This is incredibly disturbing. The NYPD tweeted out that it was investigating and said that the car was not an NYPD vehicle. There is an ongoing investigation into an incident in Times Square involving a black Taurus sedan. Dr. Scott Turner does his best to treat patients with memory disorders such as dementia. While there are treatments that may temporarily help, there's no cure for dementia, which is why a new study is getting a lot of attention. The study found your daily dose of certain medications could be increasing your risk for developing dementia. “It's a pretty substantial risk and just brings to bear the thought these medications should not be used lightly,” Dr. Turner with Georgetown University Medical Center, says. The study--published in the Journal of the American Medical Association--found the risk of getting dementia increased nearly 50 percent for patients who took medication every day for at least three years to treat some of the most common conditions in older adults, including bladder control, Parkinson’s, depression and epilepsy. “This study's important because dementia is very common in older individuals, and these classes of medications are also commonly prescribed,” Dr. Turner expresses. “So, I think there will be a lot of discussions between patients and their doctors about the risks and benefits of these medications.” The study warns people not to stop taking any medication without speaking with their doctor. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. 1363

A now-5-year-old pit bull is back home with its owner after disappearing two-and-a-half years ago."This is a picture of her on the couch on Christmas," said Savannah Rastrelli, as she reminisced about her dog, Sugar. "This was in 2016."Rastrelli said one day after roaming their 45-acre lot, Sugar never returned."I posted on Martin County lost and found pets, lost and found pets of the Treasure Coast," said Rastrelli.Nobody ever answered the plea for help until this week, when the Port St. Lucie Police Department received a call of a stray dog.The dog was wandering around the 1400 block of Southwest Del Rio Boulevard, more than 20 miles from where Sugar disappeared."It really is remarkable," said Port St. Lucie police Sgt. Keith Boham.Boham said animal control officers were able to scan Sugar's microchip and identify the owner. Derek Lowe "With a microchip, we have the ability to scan the dog or pet and locate you in the event that your animal goes missing," said Boham. Now reunited with her long-lost furry friend, Rastrelli said their story is proof that even when all hope is lost, it can still be found."I'm really happy we were able to get that call," said Rastrelli. "It's like we have a light back into our lives, a nice light." This story originally reported by Derek Lowe on wptv.com. 1360

MILWAUKEE -- One of the Milwaukee County Zoo's harbor seals has died days after she gave birth to a seal pup, Zoo officials announced Tuesday.Sydney, who arrived at the Zoo in 2005 after being rescued as an orphaned pup herself, gave birth to a male seal pup on June 3. Three days later, Sydney died unexpectedly. Officials say a preliminary necropsy shows Sydney died of a "systemic infection" - which begins in one area and then moves to the bloodstream, affecting the entire body. The pup, who has not yet been named, is being hand-raised by zookeepers and animal care staff. He was the fifth pup born to Sydney and her companion, Ringo."Keepers are assist-feeding the pup five times daily with a milk replacer formula made specifically for marine mammals which includes a high fat content and vitamins," a news release from the Zoo says. "Normally, harbor seals nurse 4-6 weeks before weaning. In the meantime, finely ground fish is gradually being added to the formula. As of June 23, in addition to the formula feedings, the pup has been introduced to live fish to pique his natural instincts.""Keepers comment [Sydney] was extremely smart, and through training sessions, taught them how to be patient, calm and reliable...Sydney will be missed by her keepers and visitors," the Zoo says. This article was written by WTMJ. 1346
