A metro Detroit mother says her 2-year-old’s severe medical disorder has been devastating. Even worse, she says Health Alliance Plan, which sells health insurance in several states, has refused to cover a crucial formula her daughter’s needs. For 2-year-old Abby Bortnick, the food you would find in the refrigerator is dangerous and could cause serious health complications. Her mother says it’s part of the reason she’s been in a battle with the health insurance company, for more than a year.The extremely rare digestive condition is treated differently in other states. Michelle Bortnick says more than 20 other states along with the FDA consider the formula needed by Abby to be medical food. However, she says HAP has labeled it a supplement they won’t cover. Without the formula, Abby’s body treats food as an allergen and rejects it. A multistate outbreak of listeria has been traced to a Houston manufacturer's Vietnamese ready-to-eat pork products, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced this week. Long Phung Food Products has issued a recall of its ready-to-eat pork products, which were shipped nationwide.Four people were hospitalized after eating Long Phung anchovy-marinated pork patty rolls manufactured between May 21 and November 16 and labeled with establishment number "EST. 13561." No deaths have been reported.Listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning in the United States, according to the CDC, and is especially dangerous for anyone with a weakened immune system, over age 65 or pregnant. Symptoms usually occur within four weeks of infection but can take as long as 70 days to appear. In some cases, the first signs of infection are diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Typical symptoms that follow include headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle pain, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.Pregnant women are especially at risk. According to the CDC, they are 10 times more likely to get a listeria infection, and the odds are even higher for Hispanic pregnant women, who are 24 times more likely to get listeria.Although pregnant women typically experience only flu-like symptoms, the danger to the developing fetus is high. Infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, premature delivery or stillbirth.Newborns with listeriosis can develop blood infections, meningitis and other serious and potentially life-threatening complications. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.The illness has affected people in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Michigan, but the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said it is concerned that families and businesses may have stored frozen products. A trip to "The Happiest Place On Earth" turned into a nightmare, according to an Inland Empire woman who spent two nights at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Ivy Eldridge was a guest at the hotel back in April, when she claims she was bitten by bed bugs, suffering physical, financial and emotional damages, according to a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Eldridge has hired attorney Brian Virag, who specializes in bedbug litigation, to bring a lawsuit against the hotel, along with the Walt Disney Co. and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Virag claims that Eldridge was bitten all over her upper body, including her face, ears, arm, neck and back. "People put trust in the Disney name and pay top dollar to stay at the Disneyland Hotel," Virag said. "In this case, Ms. Eldridge's trust was betrayed." Virag is also currently representing Victoria's Secret model Sabrina Jales St. Pierre, in a bed bug related lawsuit being brought against Embassy Suites Palm Desert. "Bed bugs don't discriminate," Virag said. "They are found in hotels throughout the country and worldwide. A member of production on “The Batman” has tested positive for COVID-19 and the U.K shoot has been temporarily suspended. Multiple media outlets are reporting the film's star, Robert Pattinson, is the person who tested positive.A spokesperson for Warner Bros. said Thursday that the individual is isolating in accordance with established protocols and filming is temporarily paused. They would not release any other information about the situation or affected crew member.Vanity Fair and Deadline are both reporting Pattinson tested positive for coronavirus, however no other information about his situation was available.Pattinson is starring in the new film from director Matt Reeves which had resumed filming just a few days ago after an almost six-month hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.The film was originally supposed to hit theaters in June 2021 but was pushed back to October 2021 because of the production delays.Before filming was stopped earlier this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, enough was shot to put together a trailer for "The Batman." 1081

A Milwaukee County bus crashed near a busy college campus on Tuesday.The bus crashed near Johnston Hall on Marquette's campus in downtown Milwaukee.The Milwaukee Fire Department says at around 5:15 p.m. a Route 12 bus lost control while turning left. The bus ended up on the sidewalk near Gesu Church. Marquette Police said five people sustained non-life-threatening injuries. MU police also said the bus hit Johnston Hall and caused damage to the front of the building. The building was evacuated as a precautionary measure.  564
