President George H.W. Bush, 93, was hospitalized Sunday morning, less than one day after his wife's Barbara memorial service, a Bush family spokesperson said on Monday. "President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood," Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said. "He is responding well to treatments and appears to be recovering." Bush's wife of 73 years Barbara Bush died last Tuesday after a period of failing health from COPD and heart disease. Bush and Barack Obama. Bush has had several recent spells of poor health. In April 2017, Bush had an extended hospital stay after suffering from pneumonia. RALEIGH, N.C. – The Associated Press has declared President Donald Trump the winner in North Carolina, though Joe Biden is still projected to win the presidency. The AP concluded Friday that there were not enough outstanding ballots remaining to be counted in the state that would allow Joe Biden to overtake Trump’s lead of 73,697 votes.Friday was the deadline for counties in North Carolina to certify their results. Following updates from most counties in the state, Trump leads Biden by 1.3 percentage points.Trump campaigned aggressively in North Carolina with in-person rallies at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, including gatherings in Fayetteville, Winston-Salem and Greenville in the weeks before the election.He was scheduled to hold the Republican National Convention in the state but pulled out after a fight with the state’s Democratic governor over coronavirus restrictions. It was moved to Jacksonville, Florida, before being largely canceled all together.Trump’s win in the Tar Heel State puts the president at 232 electoral votes and Joe Biden remains at 290 votes.Biden is still projected to win the presidential election, since he has surpassed the 270-vote threshold needed to claim victory.The only state the AP has yet to call is Georgia, which is conducting a recount because neither Biden or Trump leads by more than .5 percentage points. Prince Philip, husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, has been discharged from a London hospital following surgery on his hip, Buckingham Palace said Friday."His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh left King Edward VII's Hospital at midday today (Friday), following a hip replacement operation last week. (KGTV) - The Rancho Bernardo Development Review Committee heard comments Tuesday night regarding an application for a recreational marijuana store.The owners of the store Urbn Leaf have applied to open a new location at 16375 Bernardo Center Drive, the site of the former Mexican restaurant El Torito.The committee was expected to vote on whether or not they would recommend approval of the conditional use permit, a non-binding decision that would be sent to the Rancho Bernardo Planning Community Planning Board.However, in a 3 to 2 decision, they voted to postpone the vote to a later date pending traffic and environmental studies of the potential impacts. 692

RALEIGH, N.C. — Young rising GOP star Madison Cawthorn has been elected to represent a North Carolina U.S. House district. The 25-year-old's win in the 11th Congressional District allows him to fill a vacant seat previously held by Republican Rep. Mark Meadows. Meadows left to serve as President Donald Trump’s chief of staff. Cawthorn defeated Democrat and retired U.S. Air Force Col. Moe Davis. Cawthorn will be one of the youngest people to ever serve in the U.S. Congress. He first drew attention after defeating Trump’s preferred candidate in an upset in the June GOP primary runoff.The previous youngest elected member in modern history was Alexandria Ocasio Cortez who was 29 years when she was sworn in for her first term in January 2018. The youngest member of the House of Representatives ever elected was William Charles Cole Claiborne of Tennessee, according to U.S. House records.
