The cousin is the fifth person to accuse Murray of child sexual abuse.Murray denied the allegations, as he has in the past. He said he was resigning effective 5 p.m. Wednesday so the scandal would no longer overshadow his office. In light of the latest allegations, he said it was clear it is best for the city for him to step aside."While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business," he said in a statement."To the people of this special city and to my dedicated staff, I am sorry for this painful situation."Council President Bruce Harrell will become mayor upon Murray's resignation, Murray said. Harrell has five days to decide to hold the position for the remainder of Murray's term, which ends in December.Murray was elected in 2014 after 18 years as a state lawmaker. (KGTV) -- A San Marcos man had to rush his small dog to the hospital after the animal was bitten by a rattlesnake that somehow managed to get into the home.Ross Margolin says he came home to feed his five dogs when he heard the dogs in the other room barking at something.When he walked into the kitchen, he says he heard the unmistakable rattle. Margolin quickly called a company that specialized in getting snakes out of the house.The man who came to collect the rattlesnake was able to quickly get the two and a half foot long reptile out of the home. Margolin says he later noticed one of his dogs was bitten by the snake.Fortunately, Margolin says his dog quickly recovered after being rushed to the animal hospital for treatment. Margolin says the snake was able to get into the home through an open sliding door.  857

SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - The California Coastal Commission voted 10-0 in a special meeting Thursday to approve an inspection and maintenance program allowing Southern California Edison to store spent nuclear fuel in a storage site at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.The program outlines actions SCE will take to inspect the canisters that contain spent nuclear fuel, as well as how potential issues with the canisters will be remedied.Robotic devices will be used to inspect the canisters and site conditions will be simulated on a test canister, which will be observed for potential degradation. Two spent fuel storage canisters will be inspected every five years starting in 2024, and the test canister will be inspected every two to three years.Canister flaws will be repaired by applying a nickel-based metallic spray, and the presence of flaws may result in increased canister inspection frequency and an increase in the number of canisters inspected.The inspection and maintenance program was also reviewed by the engineering consulting firm LPI, which provided recommendations that included the increase in canister inspections should flaws arise.Nearly 3.6 million pounds of spent nuclear fuel are stored at the plant, which stopped producing electricity in 2012.Concerns remain over the plant's proximity to the ocean and the potential for the site to be affected by rising sea levels, tsunami inundation, seismic hazards.By 2035, the commission may look to relocate the canisters to another site, although no such location is available, according to a commission report.The report states that though the commission "has consistently voiced its concern that there is no permanent or long-term repository for spent nuclear fuel from SONGS or the other nuclear power plants along the California coast," no such repository has been identified by the federal government, necessitating storage on-site at SONGS and many other nuclear power plants across the country.The inspection and maintenance program is designed to ensure the canisters "will remain in a physical condition sufficient to allow both on- site transfer and off-site transport," should such a site become available. 2198

(KGTV) -- Firefighters responded to a brush fire in San Marcos Sunday afternoon. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the fire broke out on the 500 block of Sarver Lane around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.CalFire said that the forward progress of the fire has stopped and that two acres have burned.The only reported damage was to a small, abandoned outbuilding, the Sheriff's Department said.All roads are open near the scene of the fire. Nobody was evacuated during the fire.Firefighters remain on the scene. 554
