The CDC is investigating an alarming new trend that's sending people to the hospital across the country for lung issues. Doctors are reporting a spike in severe pulmonary illnesses possibly relating to e-cigarette products or vaping. There are now more than 150 cases in at least 16 states. One of those cases was 18-year-old Chance Ammirata, who ended up in a Florida hospital after he felt pain in his chest. “It was almost as if I was having a heart attack and I couldn't breathe,” he describes. It turns out his lung collapsed, which doctors say could have happened from something he inhaled. The teen blames vaping, which he started about a year and a half ago. “I didn't think vaping could have that effect on my lungs,” he says. In Texas, 17-year-old Trystan Zohfeld spent 18 days in the hospital and lost nearly 30 pounds after his lung failed. His doctors also believe vaping could have played a factor. According to the CDC, since June vaping has been linked to more than 153 mysterious cases of lung disease, spreading from coast to coast, in at least 16 states. The common link: vaping products that contain either nicotine or THC. “We've seen the damage and the dangers of nicotine addiction, but now, we see the possibility of lung problems and others,” says John Schachter with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Health advocates are pushing for the FDA to implement tougher restrictions, including a ban on flavored e-cigs, saying they target children. “Why are we waiting, God forbid, for a fatality? These are children. It's our job to protect them,” says Meredith Berkman, with Parents Against Vaping E-Cigarettes (PAVE). The American Vaping Association issued a statement saying in part, "the evidence continues to point to street-bought vaping cartridges containing THC or synthetic drugs as being the cause of these illnesses.” Meanwhile, Ammirata hopes telling his story will lead to more awareness.“I have thousands of messages of people telling me they quit due to my story, but more importantly due to their bravery,” the teen says. 2075

A federal court in Washington, DC, has unsealed five search warrants that special counsel Robert Mueller obtained while investigating Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer.The newly unsealed documents show how Mueller had a judge's permission to follow the money from Russian sources to Trump's personal lawyer, and had reason to look into Cohen's extensive contacts with Russian government-linked individuals, some of which began on the day Trump won the presidency.The documents are from 2017, before Mueller referred the Cohen investigation to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, and generally show how Mueller was allowed to dive into Cohen's email accounts, including his Trump Organization email address.In a search warrant application from July 2017, prosecutors outlined how Cohen started communicating with a Russian-connected company on Election Day. Over the next year, there were more than 1,000 calls and text messages between Cohen and the CEO of that company, Columbus Nova.In the filing, Mueller's team made it clear that Cohen began contacting the company immediately after the election: "Telephone records show no such text messages or telephone calls between COHEN's cellular telephone and the CEO of Columbus Nova prior to November 8, 2016."Columbus Nova is an American company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, a prominent Russian oligarch. That was apparently all it took to trigger a severe asthma attack. The 11-year-old boy’s story isn’t the only one making news. Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel posted on Twitter about her own severe fish allergy this week. She said she gave an airline a heads up about her fish allergy, but when she boarded, she said they were serving bass. She wrote fish allergens can be “transmitted by touch and air.” Dr. Moshe Ben-Shoshan confirms it’s possible. Ben-Shoshan specializes in allergy and immunology at Montreal Children’s Hospital and says about 10 percent of people with fish allergies can have airborne reactions. "We always tell parents that have children with fish or shellfish allergy to be careful when someone is cooking seafood around them, because the vapor can contain the allergen," Ben-Shoshan says.
